But then again there are large wels catfish near Chernobyl as well. I guess at least the Olympian swimmers can be grateful for the fact that the pollution is all natural organic.

How do you spend 1.5 billion cleaning up failing to clean up a river?

Because it is basically an 100 year old landfill full of toxic metals alongside the poop.

Not surprisingly, high levels of metals and fecal bacteria have forced a ban on swimming in the Seine since 1923. The river has been simply too toxic for recreation—and the last time it saw Olympic events was 1900.

After the medal ceremony for the Women's 4x100m Medley Relay, in which the Australian team of Kaylee McKeown, Jenna Strauch, Emma McKeon and Mollie O'Callaghan won Silver, the team put their medals aside and jumped back in the pool with their tracksuits on. With no more races to follow in the program, I guess you can do that!



Apparently it was Kaylee McKeown's idea, because of course it was.

Update on gold prospects remaining

High chance
2 in table tennis
4 in diving
2 in synchro swimming
5-6 in weightlifting

and maybe:
~1 in shooting
~1 in badminton
~1-3 in gymnastics (men's parallel bar, high bar, women's balance beam)

Currently at 19
Estimated final golds (based on these sports only) are 32-38

Not including sports I'm unsure of like athletics, boxing, wrestling, cycling, sailing, canoeing, volleyball and other team sports where quite a few more could also come. Btw the 4 maybe ones are all taking place today so we're in for an exciting day

China has a couple of female gold medal contenders in boxing too. I would not be surprised if China ends up with 40 gold medals.
