I think conventional drum can hold 75 to 100 round as well, why need such an odd drum?
Unlike the PRC The North Koreans moved with the Russians to 5.45x39mm, Now The Russians did trial Drums for 5.45x39mm but never adopted them issuing 45 round box magazines.
It seems the North Koreans Prefer the high capacity. So they developed their own Now the exact number of rounds is up for debate some say as high as 150 rounds I keep to the conservative 100, These have however been seen a number of times over the years in particular by the bodyguards of Kim Jong un in public appearances which means they are likely real.

Also many hardware on the Day of the Sun also proved to be fake. Is N. Korea a paper cat (small tiger)?
Some fakes yes but some real it's spotting the fakes thats the test.

Chinese "peacekeepers" North of the demarcation line, Americans can keep their southern base.

Korea unifies under Seoul and rebuilds.

All sides benefit ultimately

An opportunity for the Americans and Chinese to work together productively for once as well.
The problem would be how to safely demobilise one of the largest standing army, re-train them with non-military skill sets and then re-allocate them into waiting jobs, in a capitalist market economy? Unless the KPA by then have lost its capability and/or will to fight, foreign troops on Korean soil will be a thorny issue, and that's by and large an understatement.

And I don't even know where to start with deprogramming the "cult of Kim"...

Then there's bringing North Korea's infrastructures up to par with the South's.

And last but not least, with Germany's example, the reunited Korea could be looking forward to at least 10-year long economic stagnation, as whatever growth will be off-set by the North's modernisation effort.

I think everybody like high capacity magazines but it has to be practical. That tube-like drum magazine is real odd and unpractical to me. In stead of holding the gun, you hold the drum. Spare magazines are also inconvenient for carrying. I think there are a few types of gun using this design but they are placed above the gun, not below.

The Calico and Chinese Long Wind CS/LS06 mount over the gun The North Koreans though I think took a Russian SMG and scaled it up. Helicalmag1.jpg PP-19_Bizon_right_view.jpg The Advantage is that the overall cubic space of the weapon remains the same. unlike a Drum that normally has to either extend out to a side both sides or hang below.

Looks like a modified AK to accept the magazine (although Bizon itself was design around the ak, other than the operations)

I wonder how heavy the thing is. When I first saw it, I thought it was Bizon, until you pointed out the size

All indications are it's based on the AK74M or local production of the Type 88 which is more or less the same. Modifications include extending the Receiver for a top folding Stock this is likely as the side folding AK 100 series style of stock would be prevented for proper by the girth of the drum. the extension of the receiver also makes this the likely basis of the Carbine for the Mock OICW, as well as issue and use by more conventional KPA troops with traditional 30 round magazines.

If we look are our "friend" here we also see the magazine mates to the rifle in atleast 2 places one is to the magazine well the other is a modified gas block,I have seen others say bayonet lug but the bayonet mounts of the AK are part of the muzzle device and and front sight post.
AK74Bayoonrifle2.jpg
[PSA]Remember Don't run with bayonets unless you want to stick someone's eye out with that thing![/PSA] this means that in theory the high cap NK rifles can mount a bayonet but The magazine would prevent use of an underslung Grenade launcher like the GP 30 series.

These modifications do not seem to change any of the Weak points of the AK design however.
The Iron sights remain the same and mounting sights closer to the rear of the rifle like those on the Valmet, Galil or AK 400/AK12 out as the top folder would prevent such. AK12-AK400.jpgnkorea_2_1.jpg
As would mounting of optics via a Western style Rail or AK/SVD Rail. As in the case of a M1913Rail the Stock would get in the way and in the case of a classic AK/SVDm2110.jpg
The Stock would get in the way. These lead me to question their intended use, Without a optical rail It's hard to see using a night vision scope or Red dot or use of a laser sighting system Aiming a rifle is very difficult with night vision. We know that the North Koreans have night vision systems A number of units discovered on the Chong Chon Gang 4 years ago by the Panamanians these included NOD but of a very different design.

I suggest not throwing stones... :p
Yet in the end it just proves more again that the So called "Hermit Kingdom" is anything but.

The Question is who is also selling or buying Arms. I doubt the Netherlands as any military trade. but as we saw recently Eritrea

South Korean is a US satellite. The US president was commander in chief of the South Korean army until 2015 and is to resume that function in case of war. So for many reasons your proposal would not be acceptable to China.
