Development started a long time back.
Seems to be for power stations.
Part of the "3 light, 1 heavy" gas turbine approach.
Article says domestic gas turbines only account for 7% of all power generation gas turbines. Thus this is significant.
Foreign single crystal turbine blades cost up to 1 mil RMB and can be reduced to 100k RMB if produced domestically.

Yes even Russia, which is a major natural gas producer, has issues manufacturing large gas turbines.
I think China has local manufacturing of GE turbines in some sort of local assembly deal.
But with the growth of natural gas use in China to displace coal in cities they need to have their own generator turbines.
Just remember that quite often these turbines are derived from aviation or marine technology and just look at what China has available. The highest generation capacity marine gas turbines are like 28 MW (QC-280) in power I think.

Nice article and nice to have better and better gas turbine, but why in China's article or video about developing something, price must be emphasized? Can sometimes the author says China makes this machine with price in par with western counterpart, but the quality is a lot lot better? Why must cheap "made in China" can be in par to expensive " made in western ", why not expensive "made in China " can surpass expensive " made in western " ?
