Damn, as a proud NIO stock holder I'm a bit worried now lol. This might be the coolest car I ever seen.

I am glad that Nio along with Xpeng, Li, and BYD sparks interest and discussions of Chinese auto companies globally and generally. However, most discussions unfortunately centered on the day-to-day stock performance instead of the products itself. I believe that good products drive stock performance, not the other way around.

I think people have this romantic view that China opening up GFW will result in a kind of "Yeltsin visit a supermarket full of stock" event. On the other hand, I argue that it will just unleash massive nationalists and trolls from the inside of the wall. Remember that China internet users are massive and there are more Chinese that understands English than vice versa. If TikTok and Kpop fans trolling Trump's rally is huge, expects nastier trolls and pranks from the Chinese nationalists.

The firewall exists for a reason. If China opens it up the following things will most likely happen:

1. More Western sites will adapt to their new Chinese audiences. This might result in more Chinese using them, which might eventually lead to China's own social media and sites disappearing or being absorbed by the big Western monopolies.

I thought that SinoDefence users were more aware about hybrid warfare and strategic thinking. Giving more power and a Chinese audience to Western social media will empower the US, the West, and their agendas and narratives. You are naive (at best) if you think the US won't use this opportunity to try PSYOPs on their newly acquired Chinese audience. Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Arab Spring sound familiar to you?

2. I already mentioned in the previous point, PSYOPs are assured. China can have all the trolls it wants, but the US is organised and has vast experience with subverting other states. Hell, look at Vietnam: gassed, raped and murdered by the US, yet Vietnamese are US/Western/white worshippers. The US is a dangerous force when it comes to societal manipulation.

3. China and Chinese would end up losing their own internet culture. Have you checked the memes in Western countries? We mostly have the same, and they all come from the same place: Amerishit. This is called cultural imperialism and cultural hegemony. The future will be grim for China and the world if we let Anglos/Westerners dominate the cultural hegemony. Every country deserves to become unique and culturally develop independently.

4. Western people and their mindset are different from that of Chinese people. The West is an empire in decay with the US at his head. Westerners are toxic, their culture is toxic, their socialites are toxic, and their ideologies are toxic. Even with things as innocent as memes you can feel the decay of the West: Western memes are defeatist, self-deprecating, nihilistic, etc. When you mix toxic water with clean water; all water ends up becoming toxic. I don't not wish this for China and Chinese people.

By the way, I'm a Westerner and I live in China, I know what I'm talking about.

Awww so quick.

In principle I agree that eventually at some point the GFW has to come down, but I also think right now may not be the best time due to information warfare.

Speaking about blocking, once in Hacker New I read a comment that says that the most effective way for banning is not blocking IP/username because they'll just create new accounts or use VPN. Instead, the webmaster simply randomly drop the connections or disconnect them. The targets simply losing interest swiftly and just voluntary begone.

Hi machupicu,

All is well and good, the problem is who will FAB the chips if the US decided to sanction them?
