Thats not the point, a competition is a crucial part to keep competitive.

I am not a big fan of banning, keep them compete freely and the best get the pie .. the role of the government is to make the rules

As long as Cisco is competitive and win some business in China, I am fine with that .. as long as it follows 100% the Chinese laws .. the same for Chinese companies that operate in other countries, they have to follow 100% laws there

We are on the same page, Competition bring out the best, that is why China allow full foreign ownership company to operate like Tesla, They are a trailblazer and it spur the local to improve their game immensely. People often talk about using Rare earth as a means of retaliation, for me that's a wrong approach, why use your advantage being a monopoly to destroy yourself and create a competitor out of thin air.

U.S. looks into restricting Ant Group, Tencent payments - Bloomberg

I dont think banning ant and tencent payment systems will affect them much. Ant only gets less then 5% of its revenue outside of china, with only a tiny amount of that from the US. So, ant is pratically non-existing in the US. I dont know about tencent, but most probably its close to that.

They were weighing banning Cisco hardware earlier this year. Trump is already toast in the polls, not sure what Xi is waiting on.

Cisco only gets less than 3% of its revenue from china. If china were to ban it, it wouldnt have much consequences for them.

It is one of the worst cases of grasping at straws I have read this month in a newspaper article. They tired to sound authoritative, but there was nothing there.

Another way of interpreting that article of how the United States will crackdown on Tencent and Ant-Financial, that is the worst case of jealousy I have read in a few months anywhere.

They should just keep their mouth shut.

All this is, it is American weakness in full display.

] On October 9, a person familiar with the matter told Jiwei that after AMD and Intel, TSMC has also obtained a license from the US Department of Commerce and can continue to Huawei supplies some mature craft products.

According to the person familiar with the matter, the license obtained by TSMC mainly covers products manufactured with mature technology, and advanced node products such as mobile phone SoCs still cannot be found for Huawei.

And the click bait starts.

I hope Chinese government establishes their own embargo without falling into this trap many have guessed will come. It's here.
Even if it is in loss for a few years, Huawei & SMIC must be pushed to establish their own fabs with west-independent supply chains. It is of absolute importance not only for China, but also for rest of Asia who aren't in "rich people" category.
