I hope it's true. The problem I see with Beijing is they can take a step forward but then they take a step back. It seems like a stupid strategy like as usual they don't too much chaos happening. Beijing will show some bluster but the when a "deadline" approaches, they sometimes will express a conciliatory gesture. You don't throw a bone to someone like Trump. He'll spin it into a victory against China. Americans see compromise as weakness and Beijing thinks their moves look civilized and reasonable, taking the high road doesn't work with these people. Americans see someone thinking they're taking the high road means they're saying Americans are not and that's an insult to them. The only time Americans will think twice is when they see how they will suffer the consequences.

I think it is just estimate from industry analysts for 28nm to take 3 years. From their point of views, it would take a year to procure local equipment and materials. Another year for risk production and finally mass production in the third year. So they come up with 3 years. Even though it might be true for procurement but it is highly likely risk and mass production can be shortened if enough resources are committed. Beside 14nm would probably be ready not much behind 28nm as there are already many breakthrough in the 14nm supply chain within China.

By refusing a sale of tiktok, all the angry US users will be cut off. China itself will still be using douyin, while the rest of the world will still be enjoying tiktok. This is a good way of isolating the US hegemony. The big clown said he was going to take a cut of the proceeds for brokering this sale.

Making DRAM is actually very much easier than making Chips for Mobile Phones which require 5nm - 7nm process and EUV Lithographs to be competitive.

Most DRAM on the market today are made with 16nm to 25nm Processes which means they do not require the most advanced Semiconductor equipment.

There are 3 DRAM makers in China. YMTC uses the 20nm process. Changxin Memory uses 19nm and Innotron uses the 25nm Process.

On case of any contingencies local equipment can easily replace the foreign equipment. The SMEE 45nm Immersion Lithograph can easily replace the ASML and Nikon Lithographs. Same goes for all the other foreign equipment.

YMTC recently revealed that its latest DRAM FAB has a dual production line, one with foreign equipment and another with local equipment. The only equipment that could not be produced locally as yet was a type of furnace that had to be imported from Japan. Local companies are working on this product. Apart from that the localised production line for DRAM was complete.
Great.. which means we need to question and filter out generalities mentioned in an article, esp those wanting to show that China would fail. 2025 here we come!

Wait...ain't Changxin=Innotron?

YMTC=Yangtze is the one making NAND SSD not DRAM.
LOL.....you are right. I was going too fast typing down.

Innotron is the former name of Changxin Memory.

There was actually another China DRAM producer called Fujian Jinhua IC but that was closed down due to a patent dispute with Micron.

Yup.....YMTC makes NAND SSD.

But importantly, all these products are made using 20nm processes and these equipment is able to be sourced within China. Thats why the Trump Admin is mainly going after SMIC to stop its 14nm and 7nm Chip development.

Given that SMIC is already planning for N1 introduction in late 2020, SMIC probably has all the equipment necessary for 7nm.
Hi Skywatcher,

I know we dont have final spec details, Is there a big difference in performance, many expert had been saying that SMIC 7nm is a glorify 14nm?
