I like it.
More sanctions on Huawei and Chinese companies. I want the fellow Chinese people to know about US intentions. I want the naive people in China to realize that US doesn't want China to rise.

More sanctions must also force the many Chinese electronics manufacturers to seek complete independence regarding Semiconductors. More sanctions will sens the message to every Party leaders at all levels.

"Remember Huawei's plight in 2020?". Yeah. That should become tea table talk.

Well, I think there have been enough sanctions for everyone in China to understand they have to get to a situation where American technology can be replaced, no matter how much money or how long it takes

I agree.

It's ridiculous how Trump is destroying the long-term position of the US semiconductor industry, just so he can be re-elected.

It's part of the reason why I think the Chinese government is being pretty patient and calm until the elections are over.
But the Chinese cannot buy chips equipment right now. How can the Chinese increase market share long term?

They should move to the harmony OS starting from now. The potential ban on wechat, and any other apps, in China shows they are going to use ios or Android as weapons. Imagine you cannot use your payment apps on short notice. There will be financial and societal chaos. Foreign OS platforms should be removed as soon as possible.

Then China will create the chip equipments too. Remember, China was excluded in International space station because of all sorts of US reasons, yet China not only able to create another space station but also landed on the moon.

Unless those chip tech are created by aliens, there is no reason China cannot duplicate those technogies.

Yes, the Tiktok and Wechat bans will push the adoption of HarmonyOS as an alternative smartphone ecosystem to Google Android and Apple iOS.

But for that to happen, HarmonyOS does have to become independent of Huawei.

At the end of the day, there are 900 million smartphone users in China, which is more than the rest of the developed world combined.

It's also larger than the 800 million iPhones which exist outside of China.

So there is definitely a big enough market to support a Chinese-origin smartphone ecosystem.

At the moment, there exists a comfortable monopoly/duopoly occupied by Apple and Google.
So more competition at a global level is good for the world.

Being an alternative smartphone ecosystem is not enough. Any person in China using US smartphone ecosystem is vulnerable to unexpected sanctions. It should be made mandatory for all Chinese nationals. You can use the iPhone or Android phone as a secondary phone if you want, but the primary phone should be based on Chinese ecosystem.

That will happen naturally if HarmonyOS is installed by default on every Chinese phone.

And then we could expect HarmonyOS to expand globally, but it'll be a few years before this can happen

But when are they making the first move? They need to do this regardless of which side takes control of the US regime.

The problem is not money.

It's the time required to develop an alternative to Google Android and the other technology chokepoints controlled by the USA.

I am not sure if you completely understand that Android phones in China use AOS or Android Open Source, which is a generic Android but without GMS or Google Mobile Services. This is truly open Android. Another example of AOS is the Amazon Fire Tablet in the US. This is generic Android but with Amazon apps and an Amazon app store. Android Open Source itself is free and is part of legal obligation of using open source software, as Android is based on Linux. The thing is, the current Chinese AOS already does what you hope HarmonyOS would do, and open source isn't subject to sanction. Open source is open source, and it means it is given free to the world to use. You don't need to have a license to use AOS.

Sure, HarmonyOS can become an alternative platform, but other Chinese smartphone makers like the BBK brands (Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, RealMe), Xiaomi, ZTE Nubia, Meizu are fierce competitors to Huawei and don't necessarily trust Huawei either. They view Huawei and Harmony OS as an attempt to create a Chinese version of a closed Apple type ecosystem like iPhone and iOS where there hardware and the software are tightly integrated together, and isn't open to licensing like Microsoft Windows or Google Android. This would require the government and the Chinese telecom companies to step in to forge a neutral operating system standard that guarantees and protects the rights of the licensees.
