The US's anti-China campaign's intended effect was suppose to do the opposite. Yes you see Western countries running away from China but more importantly this was suppose to scare away Chinese from investing in China. If that were to happen, then the US would know they were in control. That's was the job of those in here trying to make people believe "without acceptance of the West, China has no future" were trying to do. Just like how an abuser beats his wife or girlfriend, he wants to make sure she has no confidence and can do nothing without him so she will submit to his every whim.

Now all that need to happen now is for the US to engulf itself into civil war from the people all being bankrupt, unemployed and discriminated by the government and then the world will be scrambling to get the hell away from the US is it is no longer the country to invest in since there dollar is a dying currency that is unreliable as hell given that it is prone to be weaponized all the time. Its only a matter of time since Trump and Pompeo have been bulling other countries into destroying themselves by trying to force the other nations to do there bidding for nothing in return. You can only do this so many times before the world gets sick and tired of being pushed around

I wonder how many Chinese have returned to China from highly sensitive industries so far.

If all this anti-China rhetoric doesn't do it then nothing less than genocide will.

The Danger of 'Open Source' Licensing

As a part of China's technological development, there has been a lot of talk of China developing its own alternatives to Microsoft Windows and Apple iOS. I fully support these initiatives. However, there has been less talk of China's access to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and China's ability to participate in the GNU General Public License that the Linux kernel is based off of. This is important because China's two major alternatives for PC OS, the Ubuntu Kylin OS, and the Deepin OS, are both based off the Linux kernel. The same is true of Unity OS.

However, in a May 21, 2019 article for XDA developers entitled "Analysis: How even Huawei’s use of AOSP may be in jeopardy with the US-China trade war" Steven Zimmerman pointed that so-called "open source" is not really free software as the AOSP Android license is still held by Google, while the Linux kernel license is held by the Free Software Foundation (FSF) which is based in Boston, Massachusetts.

The only reason why the 'Entity List' order against Huawei did not apply to these is due to U.S. regulations. The Linux Foundation confirmed this in a statement on May 23, 2019 ("Linux Foundation Statement on Huawei Entity List Ruling" in which they linked to "Electronic Code of Federal Regulations" Part 734". U.S. government could at some future date change its regulations to prohibit any US entities from entering into any licensing agreements with Huawei (or any Chinese entity), in which case the "open source" licenses would be void. This is because open source licensing still exists under the framework of US copyright law. US prosecutors could then claim that any Chinese entity distributing a Linux-based or "open s ource" based software is doing so without a license and is criminal. It could also pressure other countries to bring legal action against Chinese entities for the same reasons, under their own copyright laws.

If China is to continue developing UOS, Deepin OS, and Ubuntu Kylin OS based on the Linux kernel, it must bring the GNU General Public License, as well as the Android Open Source License (AOSP) under Chinese law. This means establishing a framework for these open source licenses in China, and get the license holders, such as the Free Software Foundation and Google, to agree to distribute these licenses in China or transfer them to Chinese entities for use by Chinese entities. Chinese entities must have independent license rights under Chinese law, not only under US copyright law.

Otherwise these so-called "open source" licenses could be revoked by the US in a cruel joke.

Hugo Grotius is an interesting figure.

In the 16th century, the Portugese/Spanish had a monopoly on the East Indies trade, just as the US has a monopoly in many software areas today. It was based on their intellectual property, which was knowledge of the trade routes to Asia which were only known by the Spanish and Portuguese at the time.

The Netherlands was an up and coming new power, just like China today. It was also accused of theft, but unlike China today, the Dutch engaged in actual physical theft, pirating against Spanish and Portugese ships and stealing their loot.

It was up to Hugo Grotius to write a defense of these behaviors, which he wrote in his famous tract, Mare Liberum. Grotius formulated the new principle that the sea was international territory and all nations were

Trade. Grotius wrote the treatise while being a counsel to the

issue.

The air belongs to this class of things for two reasons. First, it is not susceptible of occupation; and second its common use is destined for all men. For the same reasons the sea is common to all, because it is so limitless that it cannot become a possession of any one, and because it is adapted for the use of all, whether we consider it from the point of view of navigation or of fisheries.

Not only was this argument successful, but Grotius laid the foundations for international law based on natural law. The Dutch and English used these arguments to break the Spanish/Portugese monopoly on the seas, which helped fund the English colonization of North America and eventually led to the United States itself. By the same justifications, China if pushed to the wall can claim that the intellectual field is the collective property of mankind based on natural law.
