China might as well just do it since they literally asking for China to do it.
Honestly, when its comes to space exploration, money is more of an issue for the U.S. than for China (especially after the COVID-induced recession). China's state capitalist structure allows more efficient wartime concentration of wealth in the hands of the government, as long as corruption is kept under control. On the other hand, the American advantage lies in its education system and highly competitive private aerospace companies.

A good explanation on GaN, but don't expect making CPUs out of it. It will have its impact in power conversion circuitry, light diodes and RF applications. China is making a strategic bet on this semiconductor.

Looks like Huawei wants to become like Samsung and produce their own Chips. Hisilicon is still growing. They have filed patents for Lithography Equipment and manufacturing processes several years ago.

They can set up their own FAB using the new SMEE 22/28nm Litho machine and use locally made or Korean/Japanese semiconductor manufacturing equipment to produce 7nm Chips. Maybe get some help from SMIC?

Hi Tam,

China is making a strategic bet on this semiconductor.

May I ask about any progress regarding this new tech and which chinese institute is doing the research?

Hi WTAN,

It's good to see you back again, is the refer patent is for the EDA tool for the 7nm? what kind of Lithography Equipment? sorry for being a nuisance, but I really like to know your opinion.

Foxconn reportedly to invest 60 billion yuan to build chip factory in Qingdao-cnTechPost

Foxconn's planned advanced chip packaging and testing plant in Qingdao has recently broken ground, DigiTimes quoted a source as saying.

The factory plans to invest 60 billion yuan ($8.5 billion), dedicated to providing advanced packaging and testing technology for chips used in 5G and artificial intelligence-related devices, the report said.

The report also said that after the completion of this project, the designed monthly capacity is 30,000 12-inch wafers.
However, according to a later report on

, Foxconn said the amount mentioned in the above report is inaccurate, and specific information needs to be based on official information.
Notably, this afternoon, DigiTimes also corrected the amount of Foxconn's investment in the factory, and the corrected report showed that the factory's investment amounted to 1.5 billion yuan.

On April 15 this year, Qingdao signed a contract with Foxconn, and Foxconn's high-end packaging and the testing project is set to be established there.
The project is scheduled to start construction this year, start production in 2021. For the specific investment amount of the project, Foxconn did not announce.

The plant will package chips for 5G communications, artificial intelligence, and other applications that are currently experiencing rapid growth in demand.

Huawei expected to produce 74 million 5G phones this year, ranking first in the world-cnTechPost

Amid China's aggressive 5G push, Huawei is expected to produce about 74 million 5G mobile phones this year, ranking it No. 1 worldwide, market research firm TrendForce said in a report released today.

Huawei has been affected by the U.S. export ban and is now focusing on domestic sales in China.

Chinese mobile phone brands have advanced deployment of 5G mobile phones, and have already captured 75% of the global market share in the first half of 2020, the report said.
TrendForce said that in addition to Android brands, Apple's new phones will also join the 5G list in the second half of 2020.
Apple's total production of 5G mobile phones is estimated to be about 70 million units, ranking second in the world.

Samsung has lost ground in the Chinese market in recent years, the total production of 5G mobile phones for the year is only about 29 million units, ranking third in the world.
Vivo, OPPO (including One Plus, OPPO, Realme) and Xiaomi shipments are similar, and in recent years have been squeezed by Huawei's expansion of market share in China, and the three actively strive for overseas market share to maintain annual production performance.

The report predicts that the three will produce 21 million, 20 million and 19 million units of 5G mobile phones.
Under the forecast that total smartphone production will remain at 1.243 billion units, 5G handset production will account for 235 million units, with a penetration rate of 18.9 percent.
