My biggest pet peeve with SEA in general is that the entrepreneur there (ethnic Chinese or not) always choose the route to easy money ie. real estate, tourism, food, etc. They don't bother to go into advanced manufacturing or anything high-tech. In fact, in general they are just contend with the small market they have and don't even try to expand overseas. And when they have enough capital they put them in Europe or US with frivious investments.
Not all bro most of the industrialist here are Hua Qiao, the Taipans like Lucio Tan, Gokongwei and Ramon Ang. The problem is that the oligarch gentry wouldn't let go of their land for National development, they rather sit idle, speculate and see the value of their land rise, a rent seeker mentality. We import most of our food with a huge rural unemployment cause they have no land to farm, a major source of recruitment for the NPA.

With land you gain political power, with it you can legislate law favorable to you, like selling public utilities like power and water for a song and charge the public premium. With high power and water rates essential for industry, we lost our competitive advantage cause manpower alone can't compensate for the cost. So what's the alternative? export our excess manpower as OFW and let the employer country develop instead of us.

Yes, Tony Tan Caktiong, His wife now handle the day to day operation while he diversify to real estate thru Double Dragon Properties Corporation.

Another thing bro, Mcdonalds can't hold a candle to Jollibee, the only thing that taste good is its coffee the rest are crap, even my dogs won't eat it....lol

A few stores opened in HK, the chickenjoy tastes like chickenweird.... I was back to KFC in no time.

But the hundreds of thousands of pino maids in HK are enough to keep those store alive.

Chinese researchers develop 3D printed lithium metal battery with high energy density

Xinhua | Updated: 2022-10-28 17:10

BEIJING -- Chinese researchers have recently developed a new type of lithium metal battery with 3D printing technology, significantly improving the battery's lifespan and energy density.

Lithium metal battery is expected to be the next-generation high-energy battery for its potential high energy density. But the bottlenecks, such as lithium dendrite growth and low Coulombic efficiency, resulting in poor cyclability and low energy density, have limited its applications.

The researchers from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences use 3D printing technology to make titanium carbide-based scaffolds for lithium metal to deposit as the cathode, which achieves an outstanding areal capacity of 30 milliampere hour per square centimeter and a cycle lifespan of over 4,800 hours without producing lithium dendrite.

The 3D printed anode was made by porous lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) lattices with mass loading reaching 171 mg per square centimeter, effectively improving the electrochemical performance of the battery.

This technical route offers a viable strategy for developing batteries with long lifespans and high energy density, according to the study.
The study was published in the journal Energy Storage Materials.

Was Jollibee founded by an ethnic Chinese in the Philippines? They are now expanding rapidly overseas.

Shit is so good, i traveled all the way from Europe to the Philippines just to eat the Jollibee spaghetti and chicken. Everybody thinks it was because i wanted to see family again but that was a lie.

Italians hate me because i like sweet and spicy spaghetti more than the overpriced stuff they are selling.

Shein is pretty much big time.

Mostly young people use it, so if we are of a certain age, then it passes under the radar.

Besides TikTok, Shein is the next biggest Chinese software company there is.

And their business model is unrivaled. No one can do what Shein does, that is why they are number #1 in the world in what they do, the fast fashion industry.

IIRC, briefly how it worked,

1. Get an idea.
2. Do a small production run of 100 pieces of that item. Or even just 10 pieces.
3. See if it sells, if not go back to pt. 1.
4. If it takes off, then ramp up production.

Shein can only be a Chinese company, because it is plugged into the Chinese textiles manufacturing, and has that logistical support, along with cut throat pricing.

(No one in the world will find a designer, then get a small factory to do 100 pieces. Show it to the entire world. Then everyone repeats the process.)

This company is an impressive operation.

They leverage all the strengths, and exploded onto the world.

I think the best articles I read about Shein, all came from the fashion industry. So we do not see it too often. LOL.

:D
Here's a feature on CNBC explaining the rise of SHEIN

And here's the dumb dumb Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) trying their stupid best to attack the company by simply saying SHEIN = CHINA = Toxic, crap, etc. ..

They only use influencer marketing to my knowledge, hence many of us here miss it.

They are keeping themselves quiet, and it’s working brilliantly
I have been made aware of SHEIN since 2019 and made a considerable effort to buy stuff from there for my girlfriend especially after ZARA, H&M genocide nonsense against China.

It's good that Chinese e-commerce is booming, but at the same time I do kinda agree that fast fashion is generating an unfathomable amount of landfill... What happened to clothes that you wear for years and years?
