Never heard of Shein before, but apparently they are Chinese and found their success outside of China and is the second largest shopping app in America.

And they are expanding in Philippines and using Alipay+

With news of more payment apps from Alipay+ getting accepted by Singapore, I really get the sense that Ant Group will very soon take over the entire payment market in ASEAN countries. The implications are huge if Alibaba/Ant Group can take over not just Financial transaction market, but also e-commerce and digital economy eventually.

Shein is pretty much big time.

Mostly young people use it, so if we are of a certain age, then it passes under the radar.

Besides TikTok, Shein is the next biggest Chinese software company there is.

And their business model is unrivaled. No one can do what Shein does, that is why they are number #1 in the world in what they do, the fast fashion industry.

IIRC, briefly how it worked,

1. Get an idea.
2. Do a small production run of 100 pieces of that item. Or even just 10 pieces.
3. See if it sells, if not go back to pt. 1.
4. If it takes off, then ramp up production.

Shein can only be a Chinese company, because it is plugged into the Chinese textiles manufacturing, and has that logistical support, along with cut throat pricing.

(No one in the world will find a designer, then get a small factory to do 100 pieces. Show it to the entire world. Then everyone repeats the process.)

This company is an impressive operation.

They leverage all the strengths, and exploded onto the world.

I think the best articles I read about Shein, all came from the fashion industry. So we do not see it too often. LOL.

:D

They only use influencer marketing to my knowledge, hence many of us here miss it.

They are keeping themselves quiet, and it’s working brilliantly

Shein has been huge the past few years. Here's a short DW feature on it. They put a negative spin on the company, but the first part gives you an idea of how it's been crazily successful:

If I remember correctly, the founder started in wedding dresses. The business evolved and really blew up the past couple of years. They seem to try to conceal that they're a Chinese company, but I don't think most girls that shop there really care about geopolitics.

Was Jollibee founded by an ethnic Chinese in the Philippines? They are now expanding rapidly overseas.

My biggest pet peeve with SEA in general is that the entrepreneur there (ethnic Chinese or not) always choose the route to easy money ie. real estate, tourism, food, etc. They don't bother to go into advanced manufacturing or anything high-tech. In fact, in general they are just contend with the small market they have and don't even try to expand overseas. And when they have enough capital they put them in Europe or US with frivious investments.
