Mckinsey report on Chinese cloud market
Expect it to grow from $32 billion in 2021 to $90 billion in 2025. IT work load go from 59% public/private cloud in 2021 to 78% public/private cloud in 2025. Personally, I think any self respecting IT firm should have their own data storage and computing power, but cloud is the way people are going.
70% of people preferred Chinese CSP, 20% had no preference and 10% preferred Global CSPs
This number looks different from Gartner number, but gives you a sense of the major players in the Chinese market
Public cloud growing really fast, private cloud not as much.
Chinese cloud servers are dominated by IaaS
Top public IaaS CSPs are Alibaba(34.3%), China Telecom! (14%), Tencent (11.2%), Huawei(10%), China Mobile(8.4%). Surprised Baidu is not up here. (CPU/GPU, network storage, bandwidth)
Top public PasS CSPs are Alibaba, Huawei, Tencent and Baidu. (PasS includes AI/ML)
For first quarter
Alibaba still leads, but Baidu saw the largest growth. Alibaba at 36.7%, Huawei at 18%, Tencent at 13.7% and Baidu AI Cloud at 8.4%. Seems like Baidu cloud is mostly about AI.
According to Baidu's most recent earnings call, they have the largest AI cloud market share in China and grew 31% YoY.
Baidu recently announced their all new Cloud Intelligence Integration 3.0 which combines IaaS (kunlun chips) with PaaS (through PaddlePaddle). Against, Kunlun-3 ready from mass production in early 2024.
