Is it possible that this new apfsds use some kind of insensitive propellant, which only burns but doesn’t explode when hit?

There's research paper from years ago about APFSDS with 650mm tungsten rod (680mm with fins) and the illustration on it is very similar to DTC201.

For what it's worth, an 2021 estimate by IISS suggest 1,200 MBTs (consisting of 600 ZTZ-99 and 600 ZTZ-99As) has been produced, so wouldn't be surprised if it's close to 1,400 in 2024.

China can easily sustain 4X peacetime strength, but given the Russian border and Korean peninsula is largely settled down, there is no need for a large heavy-tank force. Better to invest resources on next gen MBT or lighter tanks that can traverse the straits or Himalayas.
The 2024 edition gives the totals as 600 ZTZ-99 and 700 ZTZ-99A.

Projectile Length: 680mm
Penetrator Length: 650mm
Penetrator Weight: 4.44kg
Penetrator Diameter: 22mm
Penetrator Material: WHA
Density of Alloy: 18,000kg/m3

Penetration:
634mm @ 2000m at 0°
370mm @ 2000m at 60°
220mm @ 2000m at 75.18°

In comparison
125mm 3BM60 Svinets-2 only has penetration of
300mm @ 2000m at 60°

M1A2 (Baseline) turret front DU cheeks are rated 600mm KE protection at an arc according to the 1993-1994 Swedish trials

DTC201-120 shot from;
ZTZ99A-1 has 613mm @ 2000m at 0°
ZTZ99B has 634mm @ 2000m at 0°

3BM60 shot from
T-90M only has 564mm @ 0m at 0° & 515mm @ 2000m at 0°

so the 3BM60 is unable to defeat those M1A2 turret armour even at point blank range

It’s also worth noting that unlike the DTC10-125 which is listed that it can be used by
ZTZ96 , ZTZ96A, ZTZ96B, ZTZ99-I, ZTZ99-II, ZTZ99A

IMG_2496.png

The DTC201-125 doesn’t list them at all but only mentions 2 new upcoming ZTZ99 tanks. “ZTZ99A-1 & ZTZ99B”
My guess is that the autoloader had to be upgraded in order for the projectile to be able to fit. Unlike DTC201-125, the DTC10-125 is compatible with the standard autoloader.

I’m estimating the cartridge length at 735mm, same as 3BM60 Svinets-2

The standard autoloader can only fit cartridge length of 685mm at most.

Is it even a real round? We have never seen ZTZ99B but this image implies it's in service now.

May I assume that the ZTZ 99A-1 and the ZTZ 99B tanks have enlarged carousels?
Are both new variants already in service?
Perhaps we’ll see them in an upcoming parade.
