They are being replaced but it takes time.

Same reason why Israel keeps a bunch of really old tanks around. China used to expect an apocalyptic ground war with Russia, and the older tanks would work as mobile artillery for non-frontline troops.

Now that Russia isn’t a threat... it’s pretty much organizational inertia.

Nice picture but what are those four boxes on the right of the commander with the machinegun?
Perhaps a kind of aps? And what about the original laser self protection system behind the gunner?
