I hope I am not asking for too much, but is there a photo(s) or line drawing(s) of the Type 99 without the add on armour blocks?

The original design shared similarities to the T72 which was subsequently altered and modified.

Not applauding the guy's death. It's just about time the next generation designers take over. I read that is happening as people retire or pass on and you can see that in newer hardware. Seeing that video of the MBT-3000 going through that course and the commenters jokingly mocking it as looking too Western... I don't want to see the 1950s white walls on tires in military parades any more.

I'm not sure about the newer two variants of the 99 but the I think the oldest variant without the add on block would just look similar to 98.

Here the designer himself is posing in front of what is probably the original 99 (some term it 98)

The 98 and the original 99 had this distinctive circular hump on the top of the turret which was absent in the subsequent variant seen at the 09' parade and the newest boxy version. I am not sure what the newer version without the hump on top would look like when you remove the add on blocks.

The designer studied the soviet T-72 before settling on a design of the 99, so won't be surprised if the earliest variant at least shares some similarities with the T-72:

Just belatedly noticed your request. Here are some photos of the latest variant of the Type 99 without add-on armor blocks:

the explanatory note of the third pic is“1986年参加工作会议的祝榆生先生,他身后是当时三代坦克的设计方案模型,许多细节与作为参考对象的T-72坦克已有较大区别”——the model behind is the design model of initial scheme not T72.

Not sure if this is a 99A2 simulator.

firstly , I want to explain one thing:the ”99A2“ is not in accordance with the rules of PLA equipment naming rules 陆军装备命名规则.jpg.So there is no "99A2" _just 99and 99A(what you call 99A2).
then,in my opinion the pic is the simulator of 99A: 99 车长系通览.jpg99 车长信息终端1.jpg(the commander post of 99)

99A 车长双终端.jpg(The commander post of 99A).
by the way: 兄台哪里人?
