New Type98/99 MBT thread

In fact, it is an entirely new chassis compared to the ZTZ99. It has a higher-raised engine compartment but a shorter overall hull as compared to the very strechted T-72 styled chassis of the ZTZ99. The ZTZ99 had to accomodate the large and bulky German 1500hp Diesel engine, while the ZTZ99A can now have a shorter and more compact hull because of the new Ukrainian/Chinese 1500hp engine with integrated propulsion package. So, the whole tank now has a very brutish look due to the contrast between the completely new turret with thick frontal armour blocks and box-shaped geometry, while the hull now got shorter. But needless to say, the new ZTZ99A tank should have superb protection compared to the earlier 99s.

Is it just me or is the tank in the third picture a different one from the first 2?

The giveaway seems to be the road wheels - in the 1st 2 pics, the road wheels are US style, but in the 3rd they are typical T-72 road wheels.

What is not mentioned is that the gun (which I suppose is still the 125 mm smooth-bore) has a much, much longer barrel than the previous tanks.

I wonder what caliber it is - my guess is that it is longer than the 55 caliber versions.

Yeah, I've posted the third picture to show the difference in chassis between the ZTZ99 (3rd pic) and the new ZTZ99A (1, 2nd pic). The ZTZ99A is actually completely different from the ZTZ99, as it basically shares nothing except the same main-gun diameter. Everything is new. New turret, new chassis, new roadwheels, and even the 125mm gun has a longer caliber than the ZTZ99.

It's actually a joke to call it a "Type 99A" any longer, as it shares nothing with the "Type 99".

Hugely doubt that a Sino-Japanese contest will involve tanks. There are hundreds of km of water between the two nations.

I believe the main target was india T-72MS.
during the test firing, T-72MS survive hit from 120mm APDSFS round at 250 meter away. and a first round first hit at 3000 meter away ,this is enough to convinve the india to place large order from russia.

What is the weight of the newest type99A?

And the rumor about type 99KM with 155mm gun, is there anything like that in testing?

Some sources rate Type 99A nearly 60 tonnes, given it 3 men compact style, it is like 10 tonnes heavier than T90. If it is designed rightly, which it should be because of very newly design and the rise of Chinese economy, Type99A should have far better protection than T90.

The latest Chinese MBT tank will probably be fielded in Korea, probably against South Korean-US tanks on the Korean peninsula.
