Single points are popular but 2 point and 3 point are not rare.
I feel a single point is better with a lighter weight and shorter length weapon. Lighter weight is especially wanted if your using a bungee single point as the weight will stretch the bungee. There is also the single point mount that is built into a plate carrier. very cool but you have to run the armor with a smooth face.
Not all slings are created equal and some just don't keep the weapon in a nice grab position, There is also the type of weapon your using and where the sling point is you want to keep the sling point behind the pistol grip so that it naturally lays on your chest and is easily in grip when needed. a issue with single points though is transitions to secondary weapons you have to really move the weapon out of the way to clear the secondary and in some positions or movements it makes the weapon whack you in the face or legs ( hence the shorter length)
2 point are the classic and they have there advantages they are better for a heavier weapon as they give it the support it needs. modern 2 points can be just as good as a single point but it has to be used properly. the extra sling can get in your way depending on wear and what your doing for a bullpup reloads is a key example if your using it in the traditional over the neck and shoulder and pull the weapon up that sling is going into your mouth. using it around the neck is a work around but it's going to place weight on the neck and that can be a pain. Modern 2 points tend to have a quick loosening device so it can go from snug to loose to allow transitioning form hanging either African ( muzzle down ) or american ( muzzle up) over the back to shouldered.
3 points mount to the weapon like a 2 point but the shooter is slung in via a loop of materiel that keeps the weapon sitting differently has some of the advantages both the single and 2 point but it also has it's own issues for a AR the length running to the fore end can get in the way of the bolt release and selector.
really in the end Shen it comes down to user and training. Some swear by 2 point slings Others Swear at 2 point slings. with a little ingenuity if a PLA trooper needed it I am pretty sure he could make a simple single point.
