early last year, there's report that pakistan is seeking 36 J-10 from china, but they insist that j-10 be fitted with Chinese made AESA.which is a surprise, there's s strong possibility that PAF personnel may have been brief by the Chinese official in the progress of AESA development.
to date, there are two firms in China engage in the development of AESA .and since there's no report of China interest in the Zhuk AE or Zhuk ASE.despite the fact Phozotron is hoping for Chinese order to retrofit large fleet of SU-27SK and J-11B.

To be honest ... this picture is too small to say for sure the intake is lying much closer to the fuselage.
IMO it's just one of the pre-serials doctored with PS, esp. as its definitly an early machine.

It's possible the air intake looks to be closer because of lens effect and the fact that the J-10 was banking away when the picture was taken. In that case, it's quite easy to just remove the struts in the J-10 picture. Anyway, all available information points to the picture being very likely doctored.

Conformal fuel tanks affect flight performance of ALL aircraft, but not as much as regular fuel tanks. So yes they will negatively impact J-10's performance.

But given the fact that J-10 is intended for air-defence role, I doubt conformal tanks will be developed, as it does not need to go on deep strike missions far away.

few year ago during paris air show, dassault display rafale with conformal fuel tank, more likely design for LR deep penetration strike aircraft.

Interesting how this article calls FC-20 a 5th generation fighter. But I think it just confirms previous idea that J-10 had to beat out numerous advanced fighters for this order. It wasn't a gimme. Also, he talks about Russian engine and reverse engineering. I almost puzzles me how the PAF ACM can confuse over something like this. And the 2010 part for FC-20 is also looking very unlikely.

And the final part on surveillance, it's good that he mentioned it will be 3 Erieye and 4 Y-8s.

He said that the FC 20 aircraft has been selected after hectic and lengthy deliberations besides considering a long list of the similar category aircraft of various origins.

I have said before on this forum that Fc-20 was to be an advance 4.5 generation aircraft was selected in preference of advance European fighter aircraft due to advantage in term of cost, performance ( in term of long range and large payload etc as described by the CAS of PAF earlier ) and sanction free

He said the engine of the aircraft would be manufactured by Russia which is based on most modern technique called reverse technology.
As far as the “Russian engine and reverse engineering” is concerned it has nothing to do with the PAF’s CAS but with the stupid journalists who always mess up defence related news.

He might have been talking about the Thrust vectoring technology available from Russia for J-10 or WS-10A

And the 2010 part for FC-20 is also looking very unlikely.

And the final part on surveillance, it's good that he mentioned it will be 3 Erieye and 4 Y-8s.

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed on Wednesday said 36 high tech combat aircraft (CF 20) would be inducted in the PAF fleet by 2010.

I would say that Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed certainly would have much better knowledge about Fc-20 order and schedule delivery for PAF

Pakistan plans to introduce 36 China-made FC-20 (or Fighter-10 in China) fighter planes by 2010, Beijing-based Global Times reported, citing Pakistan's air force chief of staff.
The current world economic crisis won't affect the Pakistan air force's major projects, the general said.

A plan was being discussed to introduce two squadrons of FC-20s, Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed was cited as saying, according to the report.

Pakstan's air force picked the FC-20 from dozens of candidates as it adapted Russian engines with the most advanced thrust vectoring technology, the general said.

Pakistan will also set up a squadron of JF-17 "Thunder" fighters by the first quarter of 2009. The JF-17 was jointly developed by China and Pakistan, which will expand Pakistan's air force's maximum battle radius to 650 kilometers.

Pakistan also signed a deal with China to import four sets of airborne warning and control systems, according to the newspaper.
