For some reason I don't have that pic either. I thought I had all the pics. Having this on Jan 2006 means a big thing because it is a new prototype.

Plane apparently has bulge to accomodate the satlink on the spine already, by Jan 2006. Use of a different primer on different areas of the aircraft is quite interesting, as that may mean the material underneath the grey primer is not the same as the one used under the yellow primer. Yet this is in contrast to the other J-10s taken around 2006 which is still completely yellow.

Planes that are flying in this paint condition are usually prototypes. With those tanks and all, its going through a flight test with some pretty long flight times. Planes that are in primer condition in the ground may or may not be prototypes, as they may also be being carted to a seperate painting section.

Huii. ... never noticed the SAT-COM behind the canopy ! ... but could it be that this is not a completely new airframe but one of the later prototypes/pre-serials (from the 101x numbers), that was rebuilt to the latest standard as it already has that Mirage 2000 style camo.

For my opinion we already should speak of an improved J-10B for these late-production types with the new blade-antenna + GPS-COM !

Could be. But the plane already has the flap on the landing gear. If it is one of the camoed J-10s, its probably one of the later ones.

Is the plane testing some kind of new paint, RAM, skin material?

To think it was a new production block of J-10, I was disappointed to see the black nose and radar with the pitots. I was hoping the new block would have a grey nose, new radar and the short pitot we saw on the JF-17 101.

Now I have my hopes on again.

Hope they're not fake pictures, I have to confess I don't bother checking them thoroughly. It's very time consuming.

Try using the attachment feature when posting pictures. One of the pics was to large to post as a thumbnail.

If the third one is real on not from another aircraft I would like to see the other detail pictures !!! :china:

Looks very much like a SAT-COM or something similar !

Jane's Article Confirms Multirole Capabilities

I don't know if anyone posted the full article yet. The latest edition of Jane's appears to have an article that evaluates the deployment of new air-to-air and air-to-ground payloads to arm the PLAAF:

The latest video release (intentional leak?) portrays both the J-10 and J-11B carrying a variety of air-to-ground weapons loads, confirming the intended multirole application of these aircraft.

The video is not an intentional leak but rather publicity video made for CFTC. However, it can be said that whatever the video may try to portray can be intentional leaks.

Fishhead, your pictures are not coming up.

I am sorry for the silly question what the use for the satcom on the plane?more resist for ECM?Thx

Longer range communications. Most HF and LF radios are limited due to the atmosphere, the curvature of the Earth, etc. It also allows more information to be shared, so to network the aircraft with each other and other sensors.
