To avoid confusion, Chinese regulators are considering to change the name of semi-solid-state battery to solid-liquid battery.

Canada may remove China's EV tariff soon.

As Chinese EVs take market share in Canada and Mexico, the US will be surrounded on both sides of the border.

The just debuted BYD Racco looks like the Honda N-Box superficially. However, BYD Racco is a pure EV, while the Honda N-Box is a gasoline car with an ICE.

Respectfully: I am not trying to pick nits about the BYD Racco, but I prefer that things not be overstated. To the extent there has been a suggestion/implication that the BYD Racco is the first electric kei car, that is not correct. There were already at least three on the market: the Honda N-Van E (targeted at commercial users), the Honda N-One E, and the Nissan Sakura.

Without doing more research, I think it might be fair to say the BYD Racco is the first electric, non-commercial, tall-wagon/microvan kei car, but I would be loath to claim more than that.

Unless I'm mistaken, Honda N-Box in Japan goes for USD 12k (base) to USD 16k (fully tricked out).

Makes price competition tough and trying to sell it on pure advantages of an EV platform?
What is the EV charging network like in inner-city Japan?

My take is that for people who live in inner city, there is a significant portion of them giving up on EVs after a couple of years because
  • no dedicated charging facilities in their apartments or place of work
  • irritated by having to monitor charge levels and shifting their cars out of the charging lots once charged.
  • their lifestyle does not fully support them having a habit of charging while they are out at malls or dining out (not to mention it is more expensive than charging at home?)
This depresses resale value of EVs vis their ICE counterparts which further detracts from competitiveness of EVs at the point of sale.

At least they are better than Eurocucks. Then again, mainland Europe was not threatened with annexation. If Trump wanted to integrate Germany into the Fourth Reich then things may work slightly differently.
Canadian government sees the writing on the wall since Stellantis stabbed them in the back and GM is also closing plants as well.

It is pretty smart of BYD to try to conquer the Japanese market like this. But it is a risky move so we will see if it works.
It might be even smarter to force the Japanese government to buy hundreds of useless F-150s (complete opposite of Kei car) to prove fealty to the shogun

American journalists love to talk about the Chinese overproduction and massive subsidies that drive EV production… I guess they prefer the American solution of “F*** it! More V8 Suburbans B**ch!”

Wait whut? How dare GM?!?!

Canada needs to invoke some cold war law, remove clearly US-compromised CEO and seize the GM Canada factory cos they are clearly gutting the Canadian factory and offshoring production.

It's a matter of NATIONAL SECURITY!

Actually, If the Canadian government were to take over the plant and all the union workers' obligations (contracts/pay/pensions/benefits), I would bet that GM would welcome them with open arms.

GM and almost all western automakers have scaled back their EV ambitions. They are giving up to Chinese companies. GM is not offshoring this plant, they simply see no future in EV delivery vehicles.

As a commercial vehicle, the lifecycle is usually longer, therefore they see they don't see this trend back towards ICE as a temporary Trump related trend over the next few years, it is a longer outlook. There is a lack of confidence in one or more of the following:

A) Development of an EV supply chain at that meets expected rate of return
B) New/Continued Government support of the EV supply chain that could tilt the rate of return
C) Geopolitics allowing the importation of equipment/supplies from overseas (not just China) to improve the economic viability of EV manufacturing
