In the photo you posted, the BYD vehicle seems a bit "squashed" front to back. I think the photo below (from the same article, btw) shows the proportions more accurately.

In fairness to BYD's competitors in the segment ("tall wagon" kei cars), they *all* look cute. For example, here's the Honda N-Box.

The just debuted BYD Racco looks like the Honda N-Box superficially. However, BYD Racco is a pure EV, while the Honda N-Box is a gasoline car with an ICE.

It is pretty smart of BYD to try to conquer the Japanese market like this. But it is a risky move so we will see if it works.
