New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

I've seen this before. What NIO is doing is the same as other companies that predict they will eventually lose in their main line of business. Use existing funds to diversify and hope one of their other businesses succeed.

Alternatively, it could also just be the Apple trick. Upselling existing owners of NIO vehicles. Get them hooked on an entire ecosystem of NIO products.

My impression is to be a NIO user is like joining a country club. Having a NIO phone is just one more way to show off your membership.

That's certainly their aim. Now I am in fact intrigued by their meticulous focus on brand building, which is for sure a differentiator compared to other Chinese brands, but like many others I wonder if that's distracting them from their core business of building and selling compelling vehicles.

Per Electric Viking: Zeekr 001 and Zeekr X, which are going to Europe now, can use Volvo and Polestar's dealerships. Also, Zeekr may have an IPO in the US soon.

US brands can't command high premium like the European brands, yet can't be price- competitive in the mass market either. The middle income group is struggling living paycheck to paycheck expect them to pay US-Made premium over China-Made -US brands?
