CATL with new fast charging battery pack for commercial vehicles like light trucks
Imo capacity is more important than charging speed for light/heavy duty trucks since you'll spend more time unloading the vehicles than actually requires to charge, for example a post truck in a city would likely run an entire day of deliveries before running back to the post office to recharge.

BYD sales in June remained stagnant in Brazil and its market share is falling even with more models offered.

They announced that they planned to sell over 100,000 cars in 2024 and over 350k in coming years, but it looks like they will stay at 60 thousand realistically in 2024.

Initially, the Brazilian market was very pleased about the arrival of BYD with revolutionary prices, but recent launches have disappointing prices that are not competitive with ICE cars. Brazil will be BYD's largest potential foreign market since they are voluntarily restricted by western sanctions, this is a trend that needs to be observed.

Brazil has steep tariffs on imported cars. Once BYD opens its factory in Brazil the prices should come down and make the cars more competitive.
These tariffs are still lower than those for ICE cars, though.

On the other hand, Chery and GWM are growing more steadily and even with fewer models launched and expensive prices. I think that without an agressive price war like in China, even in Brazil BYD will not be able to significantly surpass other chinese brands in the foreign market.

hmm, that's because the models haven't started deliveries yet. King DM-i just got launched a couple of days ago. Song Pro DM-i hasn't even been launched yet. And neither has shark. They are about to launch a model per month in Q3.

FT reports that the US quietly moved to block the sale of a “critical mineral” mine in the Congo to Norinco and is putting pressure on other countries to stop selling mines to Chinese companies and to sell them to American ones instead.

As usual, us govt is clueless about how ownership of certain mines actually affect things. They think it's all a small and grab situation

The tariff has nothing to do with recent sales. They imported enough vehicles into brazil before the Tariffs rose to get all the benefits. The imported cars are enough to cover sales for rest of the year.

The problem is that they don't have enough stores or enough EV charging infrastructure. EVs can only grow so fast in a new country. BYD can easily sell more NEVs if it cuts prices. But it is not doing that, because there are numerous export capacity related issues that not everyone can appreciate here.

The fact that they(or most Chinese EV maker for that matter) haven't done so (and has shown no intention of doing so despite the close relations between China and Pakistan) should tell us alot about the state of Pakistan itself despite its huge population .
Moroever Cambodia is a peaceful stable SEA country politically compared to the chaotic messy state of Pakistan with terror groups all around the country. If not for the closed political and geopolitical ties between China and Pakistan then i don't even think there will be much Chinese companies setting up shop there due to the security situation itself in that country. Unfortunately the country has failed in almost all levels this past 2/3 decades and to make things worse things are not looking any better going forward(actually it's only getting worse). :(
my point is that don't make assumptions about what BYD will and won't do. A company can only grow so fast and open so many factories around the world. People need to calm down and not make blanket statements

China should also do the same to these yankees.
