Geely also owns Volvo. So there could also be some of that.
Volvo cars were forbidden from sale to Russia. But Geely cars used to be available for sale. Should still be.

They also own part of Germany's Daimler, maybe that is why they made this irrational move. For Geely, Russia car market is bigger than the US market. They should not IPO in the US anyway.

Why do you think Geely particularly took this decision? Are they more exposed to US/West than other Chinese car companies?
By the way is BYD present in Russia?
No. BYD prefers to be present in Ukraine, selling half a dozen cars, to please the West. They don't even consider selling in Russia where they could sell more than in Brazil and Europe. Some chinese are still very afraid of the West.

Hmmm...if so I don't think it's irrational? Afterall, these are private companies who have to answer to shareholders and make profit driven..so if they have weight the pro and cons and come to the conclusion that it will.benefit them more long term to follow US/Western sanctions and stay away from.Russia then they must have a reason for doing so I believe.. I don't think we should blame/condemn them that much for this. As much as we might not like it, The US/West and its allies still doninantes the world at the moment. So China has to thread carefully which the government is doing quite well. So China will need to grow far stronger and self sufficient in almost all fields than it is today and also cultivate strong/economically viable allies or partners around the world before it can really challenge the West in case all bets are off and full sanctions imposed if there is a showdown..

BYD really disrupting the auto insurance industry Denza N7 will only cost 6500 RMB/yr to be insured Even a 79.8k RMB Qin+ DM-i costs 5100 to be insured by 3rd party BYD is further lowering cost thru vertical integration & squeezing out others

6500 RMB a year for a 260K N7 seems to be higher than I expected since it's supposed to be from lower-cost insurer BYD. My insurance (China Life Shanghai中国人寿上海) for the 360K Denza D9 purchased in May is only 7200 RMB/yr, which is comprehensive coverage with everything maxed out (e.g., liability to 5MM RMB).

I'd like to switch to BYD Insurance once it's offered in Shanghai. Right now their rate doesn't look very competitive.
