New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

I think China made a huge mistake by not reacting immediately to the 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs. China should have gone nuclear. For example by revoking the vehicle license for all US made cars. People in China would still be able to import US cars without tariffs but they would be useless without the permit to drive on Chinese roads.

This measure would have had a chilling effect on EU politicians. Now the EU is going to introduce similar tariffs on Chinese EVs next Monday.

Probably not, because tariffs may not prevent the export of Chinese EVs to the US in the future, and the EU may not follow suit as a US stooge because their auto industry is more tightly intertwined with China's.

Tariffs may not be enough to block Chinese EVs from the U.S.

Tariffs meant to block Chinese electric vehicles from the U.S. market could be circumvented by trade advantages in Mexico and flexibility in the USMCA.

With such a ridiculously good Phev platform, is BYD concerned that their hybrid models will eat into their BEV market? There's really no downside to a hybrid drive train compared to the EV version, especially for countries with long distance driving/ limited EV infrastructure, a hybrid vehicle will be a no brainer.

BYD has probably calculated that the lost sales from its EV options are far less than the gained sales from ICE sales

that's the wrong question. Cannibalization is happening across BYD models due to how great value they are. The concern is less about hybrid vs BEV, but rather BYD DM vs other BYD DM ...

It's pretty obvious that BYD DM is mostly replacing legacy ICE sales. The data is pretty conclusive on that

Thats true, why would the customer buy current gen DM vehicles when next gen has double the range...
