New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

I understand your point, but with the current uncompetitive pricing, BYD doesn't need tariffs to not selling well already.
If the pricing is more competitive, perhaps tariffs will be higher or come sooner.

Believe it or not, SAIC is doing well in Europe.
This forum's EV-equivalent to Lenovo is the seller of one of Europe's top EVs by volume (MG4)
As I said before, don't crap on them just because they are technologically uninspiring.
There are only two viable models for exporting to Europe. 1) JVs with European automakers 2) Exporting products that contain a large amount of European tech/components, ie Lenovo/SAIC's strategy. Exporting complete finished products with 100% Chinese tech and components is not a viable model.

Brand recognition is a real thing.

Case in point, a workmate who bought a MG EV over a year ago did so instead of a BYD explained that she's not certain about the quality of a new Chinese brand, I can only assume that she didn't know that MG has been Chinese owned and made for many years.

It's not easy to remove China from the global EV supply chain anymore. Doing so may well shoot yourself in the foot.

China may well be the leader of intelligent vehicles, one of the reasons is that the Chinese domestic car market is so competitive compared to other places. In China, consumers demand new products in 12-18 months, instead of 3-4 years overseas.

Yup, China's EV makers can thrive without the US and some of the European markets. China's affordable EVs will benefit the global south, while its green technologies will reduce pollution and global warming for the whole world.

It is ridiculous. Let me put it into terms people can understand: you have two kids. One of them is super bright and graduated top of the class ECE from MIT. The other is less so and graduated from USC ComSci. Basically half of the forum is advocating that we shoot the second kid for being a loser.

Does anyone realize how ridiculous that sounds?
You are talented in comparing people!
