If this done then China should just add 100% tariffs on US vehicle, and US vehicle parts imports.
I would also forbid the repatriation of profits made by GM in China to the US.
Should hit Joe Biden right where it hurts. Since GM workers are a big part of the Democrat party voting base.
China now has a good excuse to kill off GM in China

But tbf I don't think it's going to happen. China is a much more rational player

According to several auto industry practitioners on Weibo, Audi has abandoned control of its 4S stores and allowed them to sell cars from other brands. Before this, it has been the consensus of many people that Audi would be the first declining brand in the BBA.

There is simply no need for that.
Because in the Chinese market, foreign brands are rapidly becoming uncompetitive. Strictly due to them being inferior propositions.

And no, Chinese companies can and will thrive in the West too. Simply by servicing said markets with locally produced cars, or moving with the joint ventures we tend to see in the Chinese market already. You cannot put a tariff on that.

Exactly, let China become the sole automobile manufacturer in the world. Western carmamers can export their cars if they aren't able to sell in China. Ultimately, the jobs, profits remain in China. Even if your competition is inferior it helps having them here...Within a couple years I expect utter dominance in automobiles, ICE and NEV both.

This is an open admission of the failure of America's auto industry and it will shoot the US in its own foot.

Tariffs and Timidity Are Driving US Carmakers into a Ditch

America seems to be giving up on EVs. It’s a disappointing move for a country whose capitalist thirst once created the modern auto industry.
...
The danger is that protectionism and corporate timidity are a lot easier to switch on than switch off, especially with the prospect of a Trump presidency looming.

Like birds on isolated islands, America’s carmakers are evolving to suit an oddly congenial environment — one where they can grow big and bloated in the absence of competition from hungry rivals. Gradually, they’ll lose the ability to fly.

A China EV Trade War Would Be an Own Goal for Carmakers

European players have taken a different tone with Beijing than their more hawkish US counterparts. Now is not the time to pick a fight.

Geely, Changan, and SAIC-GM-Wuling did well in April.

BYD's pure electric Sea Lion 07, which starts at $26,250, looks good.

Raytron’s thermal/infrared imaging sensor lab approved by BYD and Geely. For some reason infrared imaging sensor is often neglected and rarely talked about as part of ADAS
I've talked about it in this thread already. BYD already use it on U8. Geely also use it on at least 1 model

I don't think they will just tariff Chinese branded vehicles. They will outright ban it with the ground of national security. Just like how they banned Huawei. They will say Chinese cars can transfer data to China, that's it, ban started.
You have no idea what you are talking about here. Germans get 1/3 of their sales in China. Getting banned from China would be a disaster for Euroope
