SAIC VW will be using DJI Auto ADAS on some of its models

DJI Auto looks like they will be geared towards OEM drop-in solutions, especially their lidarless product aimed at the low-cost market.

There will always be a need for a layer of customization required, so XPeng's expertise can still be useful.

Don't forget that the key issue with VW (China especially) is that their Premium EV platform is way behind. It will debut with the Macan this year, and the Q6 (Q5 EV equivalent) still yet to be confirmed "2H 2024". As of now, Audi's Q4 is that brand's bestseller, but it is simply a gussied up ID4 that is not particularly powerful and lacking key luxury features. Even the Q6 has not been shown with any significant intelligent features as of yet. The XPeng partnership was said to use the XPeng platform in the meantime to produce smart models for China and the option to roll out worldwide.

Finally, we also should consider that the SAIC-VW partnership is being pursued as its own branch of the broader VW China strategy. SAIC-VW is said to be working on Audi models first. The VW-XPeng partnership is said to be working on VW brand.

One common myth is that majority of China’s car exports are from JV or Tesla. In fact 85% of all passenger car exports are from domestic brands. This has been the case since 2021. For commercial vehicles, almost all exports are from domestic brands.
Not in Europe or the US however. Which are the regions complaining about Chinese EVs.
