It looks like an attempt to throw VW under the bus, if they succeed to force them to abandon the chinese suppliers their market share in mainland China will take a steep dive (à la Adidas & the better cotton initiative), and an important tie between Germany and China will be severed to the delight of the anti-china hawks.

BASF announced their pullout from Xinjiang due to that same Adrian Zenz propaganda report, and yet no action has been taken against them

China may decide retaliating is not worth it since the Uygur propaganda has already died down. No use giving them more ammo and reigniting the issue in EU.

Though I still think not retaliating is a bad move.

NO Bro it means no business for BASF, other foreign or Chinese company will pick up the slack, its not China that lost so why would they retaliate. ;) China is the main market for BASF product, if they're absence locally then they price themselves out of the market.

One of BASF's products is probably the composite material that goes into the making of wind turbine blades. With their withdrawal, it will be an opportunity for the local companies to step up to the plate, like the high-speed train wheels.

It's US and Canadian companies that are the best at hiding their egregious pollution and environmental destruction, often dumping their waste onto Native Americans lands.

Some investigation should be done into the Chinese locations as well.
