so my latest substack entry on ICE to EV transition

people don't think about just how much the legacy tier 1 auto supply chain will suffer from this ICE to EV shift.

A century of R&D into making combustion engine more efficient is thrown away.

Aside from that, demand for auto grade chip is huge. Driving the domestic mature chip expansion

I think the NYT article refers to skilled labors, those who can be trained in a vocational school in 1-3 years, instead of a 4-year college. I do agree that China needs more vocational schools for the training of skilled labors, as Germany does traditionally.

BYD Dolphin is one of the best selling EVs in Brazil and was awarded Brazil's Car of the Year for 2024. Interestingly, the Dolphin that is on sale in Brazil is the Chinese version. It's slightly different from the European/Australian version.

One way around this issue is simply to make vocational training into college majors. Yes, it's a bit of waste of time and money, but at least it may produce a workforce that's needed for the economy.

E8 would be same price as low end model BYD Seal price. Basically it is a BYD Han equivalent sold at price a tier lower. That is too crazy of a price. There has to be a catch?

A 20,000-ton class die-casting machine will be one of the most powerful ones for automobile production, "which is expected to reduce the manufacturing time of vehicle chassis from 1-2 hours to 1-2 minutes".
The equipment will be the most powerful in the field globally, surpassing the 12,000-ton die-casting machine currently used by Xpeng, the 9,000-ton die-casting machine used by Tesla and Aito, and the 7,200-ton die casting machine used by Zeekr, Neta said.

With improvements in both ADAS and range occurring so rapidly, I wonder how many people are simply waiting for the leap in technology to slow down before committing to an EV. It almost seems like a disservice to buy an EV when the model next year will be better in almost every single way.
