Off the top of my head there are also Gemilang (Malaysia), Alexander Dennis (UK), and the India Joint venture (that everyone hates except you, although I agree with you, risk-reward play)


I don't think anyone is thinking this car should be driven again, but we've seen some of the absolutely devastating Chevy Bolt and Tesla fires, BYD always says LFP won't ignite the way regular Li batteries will. Li actually has a bit of a checkered past if people really think about it, from PowerBook 5300 (yes, I'm old), to Samsung Note, to Bolt


Not advocating for violence, but I was actually wondering if we would see this as well. Kind of a real world test of how safe BYD batteries really are vs. marketing talk.

It's not marketing talk. The science is very straight forward that LFP is significantly more stable when on the receiving end of physical damage.

Many residents weren't buying it. One told Nugent that the plant was part of an effort "by the Chinese Communist Party to infiltrate using business and engineers to spy on our capabilities and discover our weaknesses".

Another accused the mayor of "exposing every one of us to the contamination of our soil and water and you're threatening the overall health of the entire community".

Modern batteries are actually very advanced and very hard to produce at scale with high yield. Only below semiconductors and pharmaceuticals. Certainly an order of magnitude more sensitive and sophisticated than iPhone and EV manufacturing. Even being willing to license that technology to the US is actually a huge olive branch, let alone building and running the factory in the US. Basically doing the hard work for them.
