Due to American sanctions and politics, setting up factories in Mexico to supply Tesla and other automakers are the best way to access North American market without the risk, delay and controversy. Even if things went south, such factories can still reorient to supply automakers in exporting to Central and Latin America.

The West will not be able to ban China from the EV ecosystem given that China produces 77% of the world's batteries. The West isn't ahead in software or drivetrains either. Frankly, the West needs China more than vice versa.

Sooner or later, people will have to get used to the fact that China is irreplaceable. There will be much teethgnashing but it will happen.

Chinese battery firm AESC will be supplying EV batteries to Tata

I do wonder why is Tata building in UK and why it thinks anyone will want its cars there.

Because the UK gave them at least £500M to do it (actually how much is "not disclosed"), plus another £300M for Tata steel so it doesn't go bankrupt. Too lazy to find the links, but there were loads of news relating to the subsidies.
