New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

^I wonder how many of those were Teslas. I would like to see greater competition in Europe from Chinese brands, not just built-in-China Teslas. I see BYD and NIO here, but there's certainly room for many more brands to join.

Without competition there cannot be improvement. Too many European brands got lazy since they only competed against US cars (mostly useless) and the Japanese behemoths have largely ignored EVs.

The absolute worst scenario would be protectionist barriers, which would only perpetuate mediocrity and the cost would be borne by the European taxpayer by having to buy crappier, more expensive cars.
During the Shanghai Auto Show, a Japanese complained that Honda sent only five people to participate in the Auto Show, because the funding was insufficient. By comparison, the Volkswagen Group rented two planes to send board members to China to examine the development of the auto industry.

BYD is killing it in Singapore. Top BEV brand and 5th best selling car brand overall for April. Singapore is a luxury car market. This is because the tax on buying a car is so outrageously high that those who can afford it are buyers of high end cars. You will see a lot of Mercedes and BMW on Singapore roads. The fact that BYD, a non-luxury option can compete very well here is a good sign.

Chinese brands (incl. Chinese owned) make up 148 out of the 294, or just over 50%.
If you count Chinese-made Teslas, even higher.

yes COE, Singaporeans consider that as getting license plate for their car.
No lol.

I am Singaporean and owner of a BYD Atto 3. My license plate cost 20,000 Sgd. COE on the other hand easily cost over 100,000 Sgd. Now it's more like 110-120k.

License plate is only expensive if you want to go for rare number/letter combinations. COE and license plate are two entirely different things.

okay, I guess the Singaporean colleagues I spoke to just made it sound like license plate related cost rather than tax then.
