BYD is starting up its first showroom in Kuala Lumpur on the 12th. Should be first of 44 to be built by 2024. Again, huge investment here to build local brand. If we consider the large local Chinese population that is also generally quite well off, this is a good place to do things. I'd think they want to build several showrooms in KL and then more in places like Penang and Malacca and Johor.

btw, SIXT deliveries have started. They will be available for renting/lease soon.
IIRC, the prices are comparable to most ICE cars. So, this is EV achieving price parity in Europe through BYD.

I find it rather curious that Chinese startups are now launching their production outside of China rather than in China. I guess the domestic market is way too home and they are finding easier pasture elsewhere. I believe Envision is looking to probably build a battery factory in Saudi Arabia. Everyone is looking for BYD to build in their country, but if you can't get it, then you have to settle with secondary or tertiary players.

as an early investor, said on Monday that it had signed an agreement with Saudi Arabian authorities and joint-venture partner Sumou to set up an EV plant with an annual capacity of 100,000 units.

The factory, which will include a research and development centre, will cost about US$500 million, Enovate said in a statement.

BYD cars really show great cold weather performance here. Far outperforming rivals including Tesla Model Y/3. Seal did well across the long endurance, icy incline climb and charging tests. Some of these other cars just don't do well in cold weather at all. In terms of acceleration in slippery conditions, long lasting battery life and charging from empty to full in cold climate, nothing really beat BYD cars. Imo, Seal is vastly underpriced in China to kill competitions.

Would you look at that. Yuan+ got 2714 orders by itself in the Bangkok motor expo. Enough to propel BYD to #3. They have accumulated 10,305 orders by 12/12 and then paused new orders.

Not too surprising, but Skoda is thinking about leaving China. Market is too hard.

I didn't know the Skoda Copium was a new car. He can't say "Chinese brands offer far higher quality than we could hope to at price points we can't dream of" because:
  1. No Westoid is capable of such honesty, and
  2. What's a CEO getting paid for if he can't write thousand-word essays on something that could be expressed in a single sentence?

Skoda is basically the economy car division of VW. Their main customers are people that want a VW, but couldn't afford one. How is Skoda going to survive in a market where VWs have to be sold at 30%-50% discount just to stay competitive? It's evident that Chinese consumers would rather purchase a BYD/Geely/Chery etc at full price than a foreign car even at steep discount. It's absolutely stunning how fast the position for foreign automakers have fallen. I wouldn't even be surprised in 10 years, most foreign automakers would be regarded as cheap options for teenagers and students.
