Difference between BYD and Tesla. Tesla is all talk about what it could do 8 years from now. BYD doesn't talk and just look to dominate. Look at this tweet and see what Tesla projections are. Does anyone think Tesla can get things up to that level? BYD added almost 30k sales this month while Tesla's German plant is still build just a few thousands a month at its Berlin plant. This is not to denigrate Tesla, because all the other EV companies are having trouble ramping things up. At least, Tesla is ramping up its Shanghai plant quickly. Nobody else compares to BYD in building stuff.
The podcast I listen to china ev said something really interesting. They think XPeng might be in trouble. It's having trouble raising prices. It's not able to build large backlog. There is not much differentiating it from other EV makers. And BYD is increasingly going to eat in its market share.
For a while now, Chinese EV companies have only been eating into legacy automaker market share. As this segment continue to grow, they are going to start cannabilizing each other. BYD is now the national brand. Huawei and Baidu are going to be huge in providing their EV/AV platform to other automakers. Over the next year, some of the cool early brands might loose out. NIO is never going to be succeed in mass brand when BYD has already captured the market. It doesn't have the resource for it. Over time, BYD, Huawei and Baidu are just going to eat into many of these brands. GAC is doing well and I think they will continue to do well. Li Auto has done great on the 2 models it launched.
BYD/ADL sells another 8 of their buses in UK
BYD's Indian partner Olectra continues to do well now introducing heavy duty electric truck
More plant upgrade news for BYD.
淮安比亚迪新能源商用车及零部件项目云签约仪式举行, Huai'an BYD in Jiangsu is opening a nw commercial truck and parts project.
As discussed previously, Hangzhou Silan IC is making chips for BYD. It apparently also sells chips to Leap Motor.
The growth of BYD is aiding China's entire auto chip industry. They buy domestic for the most part.
Their IGBT chips are down 50 to 60 nm in thickness. For comparison, Infineon is able to produce IGBT with 40 nm sickness. So, their chip technology is still a little behind leading players, but they are getting there.
