Are Chinese EV makers going to get the same subsidy if they build in the US?

Well, Foxconn got $3 billion in subsidies when it promised to create 13k jobs in Wisconsin. Really depends on the negotiation.

In some cases, you get favorable land, other cases tax subsidies. Or in BYD's case, you get orders from the local bus agency.

Just saw post that BYD just completed deliveries for a 400 bus order of Jinan (or was it zhengzhou). Aside from getting favorable tax incentives and cheap local labour, BYD also manage to get additional bus orders. That's negotiation!

BYD definitely going to try to plunge into Indian market starting next year. It's a big export year for BYD

This is great. A Japanese person writing about the demise of Japan with the upcoming EV revolution. BYD is indeed scaring many people in Japan. Can't believe how good Chinese cars have gotten

if you don't think Japanese automakers are in trouble, check this out. new cars sales way down, presumably because of high oil prices

GigaShanghai is ramping up to 100k a month by Q4. Pretty impressive. I think they are going to end up exporting a lot of this.

Tesla has problems with 4680 production. So far, its annual rate of production is 4 GWh, in comparison, BYD installed more than 5 GWh in June alone.
The automaker confirmed that it is having issues ironing out production processes for new technologies in the cell, including its dry electrode technology. Tesla wouldn’t confirm its current 4680 cell production rate, but it did confirm that it is still not enough to produce 1,000 vehicles per week, which would put the annual production capacity at less than 4 GWh, but it aims to achieve that “well before the end of the year.”

While we are arguing about the location of CATL's first factory in North America, GM is planning to produce the Blazer EV in Mexico ($1 billion investment).

I must say it's rather disrespectful to BYD to compare their battery production with Tesla. Tesla does not belong in the same sentence as CATL or BYD when it comes battery production. At this point, all Tesla has done is a lot of talking about 4680 and not done anything to actually manufacture a competitive product.

BYD Bus doing great in Europe with 2700 order/deliveries, with 1400 of that in UK through ADL.

In case you want to know what the BYD SeaGull looks like
Should be previewed by BYD over the next couple of months.

And here is why BYD move into Japan is so important.
This is just one perspective from African countries. Never knew they imported so many used cars from Japan

now, just think about all the ASEAN and Latin American countries that love importing Japanese cars. BYD doing well in Japan would do wonders in these markets.

Some new on BYD factory expansions.
At Jinan, they have factory under construction for assembley, parts and semiconductor unit. All major investment. Could start production as early as late August, although september may be more likely. They are still hiring people for building factory. Will have 2 phases.

Xi'an's 3rd phase should start production in late August or early September. Aiming to do a maximum of 350k in this phase alone.

Hefei's new production line will produce Yuan+ as well as Qin+.
Changzhou will squeeze out more production capacity for Seal.

BYD's DM-i platform has been performing really well in terms of fuel efficiency. Song+ DM-i platform is going to be BYD's major PHEV export platform to the world.

The current Song DM-i platform will be exported to middle east, afica and South America.

A new special left side driving version will be exported to America and Europe
A new special right side driving version will be exported to UK and TPAC countries.

More on Seal production. Currently scheduled to be produced in Cahgnzhou, where the current main production is Yuan+

Changzhou has 2 phase. First phase can ramp up to 200k a year and started production this January. As a reference, it produced 16k in June, so almost fully ramped up to 200k a year pace.

second phase is also scheduled to produce 200k a year and supposedly starting production in Q4.

july to sep can produce about 20k a month. 30% of that production are expected to be seal (18k in total). Oct to Dec are expected to only produce Seal, with 26k per month, so 78k for Q4. Full year production of up to 90k Seal. (this is higher than the number I saw a few weeks ago when they were only expecting about 15k a month for Q4, so Seal is getting a lot of orders)

Yuan+ will be moved to Hefei starting from this month.

So far, there have been over 110k pre-orders. Assuming 70 to 80% actually end up buying, then that translates to 80 to 90k firm orders. Which means, all the production this year will only cover the firm orders they have accumulated so far! So, they are going to lose orders if they can't ramp up production sooner.

Currently, Changzhou is producing about 700 Yuan+ a day and the export version has already started production. Production rate has gone up from 28 JPH (jobs per hour) to 35 JPH.
