This is a big news. BYD has already bought Horizon and Nvidia for the processors on its future cars to support L4 ADAS. That has never been its style. It will now also try to develop its own self driving chips/board.

BYD is extremely ambitious. It already produced all the other chips for its cars.

BYD's profit per vehicle is going up. It's still pretty low when you look at it, but this number will continue to improve as they are further along in ramp up and market domination. It's hard to achieve higher margins when you double your production in 6 months.

More on Denza brand. 3 models this year. D9 is already announced. Will be followed by a medium sized SUV and large to medium sized SUV. Medium sized SUV will be delivered in Q4. The other by 23H1.

2022 sales goal is 38k for Denza. 2023 sales goals is 200k. 2025 sales goal is half million.

There are close to 30k pre-order for D9. About 300 to 400 new orders a day. They will also launch a sedan and large SUV in second half of 2023.

The 2021 market for 300 to 700k segment is about 3 million cars. BYD anticipates this market to grow to 5 to 6 million by 2025. They want to capture 10% of that market.

Also, moving up is a way to achieve higher margins and profit per PV.

Jan to May BYD export
E6 1259
Tang 1213
Yuan+ 567
Dolphin 157
Han 43

The problem with VW in China is that it's only selling 15 to 20k and looses huge amount of money doing that.

I'm not sure why Xiaomi thinks it needs to get in on EV/AV space too, but it seems like everyone wants to.

So Denza will become BYD new high end premium brand? Or BYD's BYD will also get premium models?
Denza is their medium to high end brand. They will have a super premium brand also. Denza's target market is 300 to 700k RMB

New SUVs will get unveiled this year.
5 seater SUV
6 seater SUV

I'm actually not sure why they need 2 brand above BYD. Seal is already really a great car. I don't know why they can't just bling it up a little more and have it compete in the 300 to 500k market and put the latest smart driving technology on there. Han would do great in 200 to 300k market.

I will say that people who have seen Denza up close have been raving about the UX and build quality on there.

The latest news is that Seal will officially be launched on July 29th and start delivery in August. BYD has been very focused on the Seal. It has many new technologies. The handling and structure of Seal is very advanced. This is really impressive.

Their ultra high end brand is looking at the 800k to 2 million RMB market. I have no idea what kind of PVs they can produce in that category. That's encroaching the Ferrari territory.

I cannot over emphasize how big it is For BYD to get into self driving chips. They want to be self sufficient everywhere.
"The trial production will be seen by the year-end at the earliest date"
They start off with BSP and they probably eventually want to manufacture 16nm chips also.

Also, listening to a podcast. Baidu's Jidu cars are getting a lot of publicity right now. I hear it's really high tech. It's crazy how so many Chinese tech companies are going full into this.

I thin Google and Apple are making mistakes in not diving harder into it.

Denza is old news, there’s a new luxury sub-brand of BYD, rumor said it will be a collaboration between BYD and Hwawei
It's definitely not old news. BYD is making a renewed push in 300 to 700k segment with Denza.

BYD doesn't want to collaborate with Huawei. It wants to crush Huawei. BYD is the embodiment of the current China push in technology. It wants to not rely on anyone else and dominate every field.

From our friend Taylor on BYD's recent news on driving chips. This encapsulates BYD for you. It will do everything itself. It relies on no one, but itself

Bid contrast to Geely/Zeekr that buys as many foreign brands and foreign products as possible. they are screwed the moment US government cuts Chinese EV companies from the latest American made self driving chips.

BYD is just run well as a company. NIO can't even get its production up and it's talking about going into every difficult European markets. BYD starts off by entering these soft markets like Costa Rica, Brazil, India, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. I'm reading the driven website, and the Aussies are dying for BYD to come because Tesla is only willing to deliver 8000 cars to them a year.

Now, the first Atto 3s have arrived in New Zealand

Australia should be next.

We are getting reviews from New Zealanders now.
Now freshly out of lockdown, Elliott Richard is reviewing Atto 3 for foreign markets.

Yeah, BYD is advertising themselves in Singapore

@tphuang Sir pardon my insolence and maybe I'm drinking a different kind of morning coffee BUT what! Huawei and BYD complements each other, w/o Huawei 5G kiss your autonomous driving goodbye and other IOT stuff. From what I learn BYD mission is to destroy TESLA not Huawei and BYD Chairman laments the sanction on Huawei, so sir I strongly disagree.

Crush Hwawei? Yes , in the future, so far, there’s still a huge gap between BYD and Hwawei in software/AI assisted driving , the problem is complicated, not just “A wants to crush B”

I think this might give you some perspective , I don’t agree with everything in it but in general, NEVs are fundamentally different from conventional cars, BYD collaborating with HW is like Samsung buying Qualcomm chips, in a growing market, it’s not just competition
