Tesla's Berlin and Austin factories will make money once they fully ramp up. There is no question that Shanghai is a cash call for Tesla right now. That's why I always found it mystifying that so many fanboys on Chinese social media are concerned that BYD has lower margins than Tesla and even NIO. I mean have they looked at BYD's expansion plans? It takes time to turn profit when you open up new plants and then ramp up the production. The rate of BYD expansion will slow down at some point and then their profit margins will be really high.
btw, if you listen to China EVs & More podcast
The made a couple of good points in this week's podcast. Tesla's Berlin factory has vaulted Tesla ahead in the European market. A lot of the Chinese EV automakers are entering Norway now because they don't want to loose out. Recently, both Voyah and HiPhi entered Norway. They might not be ready to do so yet. Tesla ramping up Berlin factory probably also pushes ahead BYD and NIO's need to build factories in Europe quickly. Hence the BYD expansion in 2023.
They also mentioned that it's interesting BYD is picking CES 2023, a major tech event, to make announcement rather than an autoshow. Kind of interesting to see where they think their market is. Taylor Ogan mentioned that he saw a lot of BYD buses in Bay Area. California and the tech sector (or even entertainment sector) would probably be a great early market for something like BYD Seal and Tang.
The Atto 3 entrance to NZ market has now revealed pricing.
interesting that BYD sells its car so much more expensive in the International market. I guess it thinks it can charge a huge markup due to the weak competition there.
BYD had an re-inauguration day for its PV factory in Brazil
They are showcasing their PV plant, energy storage and various Vehicles like Tang, forklift, Qin+ and vans. Energy storage seems to be a market where BYD is quietly excelling.
It would be huge for BYD (and China in general) if Lula wins
BYD buses are now being test trialed in Guatemala
