Should Huawei sell? Or should they instead partner with Volkswagen and other western automakers for their software in order for them to become a major force in this sector competing with the likes of Apple and Android

Absolutely not. When China is allowed to buy German technology companies, China might consider reciprocating.

Yeah i also doubt it, unless Huawei has been bleeding money and is close to bankruptcy i don't see a reason for them to sell off that part. Especially now that they are building their own silicon/chip supply line.

It turns out that Huawei will form a joint venture with VW, for which VW will be the majority shareholder, while Su Jing, former head of Huawei’s intelligent driving product line, will be the leader of the new joint venture::

VW in talks with Huawei on creating self-driving tech JV, report says

Volkswagen Group is holding talks with Huawei Technologies on establishing a joint venture to allow the Chinese tech giant to help it develop autonomous driving vehicles, according to Jiemian, a Shanghai-based business website.

VW will become a majority shareholder of the partnership, Jiemian reported Wednesday, citing a source with information about the talks.

The deal, if finalized, will effectively make Huawei a tier-one autonomous technology supplier to the German auto giant, it noted.

Su Jing, former head of Huawei’s intelligent driving product line, will join the VW-Huawei joint venture to lead its product development, the source was also cited as saying.

Su left Huawei in January, according to Jiemian.

For several months, VW executives have been negotiating with Huawei about acquiring the latter’s autonomous driving unit, German business magazine Manager Magazin, reported last week.

VW has long been the largest automaker in China. Despite a 14 percent drop caused by global semiconductor chip crunch, it delivered some 3.3 million cars and light trucks in the market, well above GM’s local volume of 2.9 million.

Seems kind of unlikely. Billions of euros for a unit that hasn't even started full production and is under tons of american sanctions. Maybe huawei's self driving is really better than expected?

But very interesting. Could be a sign Germany intends to strengthen economic cooperation with China. Last year Huawei also won a contract to equip 30 million VW cars with 4G. Imagine if millions of VW cars came equipped with Huawei self driving. Let's just hope the German industrial lobby is strong enough to overcome the American puppets infesting German media and NGOs.
I hope so too.

I don't see a source it just seems like rehashing of previous rumors.

Why another plant in Shanghai? Another plant in Guangdong will be more convenient for exporting cars to other countries.
They already have a great supplier network there.

However if I was Elon, I would still go for another location.
You know, China has politics too;).
It never hurts to have one more influential local government helping you and covering your back..

Guangdong's Nansha also has a free trade zone. Besides, byd and xpeng are located in Guangdong, so the supplier network is also big there. Even Evergrande's EV plant is in Nansha.

New BYD "Bookshelf" battery patents - the battery pack is even safer than blade battery, with cooling on every side, an anti-explosion valve, exhaust vent, smoke sensor, and gas sensor.

In other news, BYD finally chose Baidu as autonomous driving supplier:
What? Not Huawei? I thought BYD already uses Huawei chips in their cars.
