Well, they can choose to be as strong headed as the big old Japanese auto makers who refused to merged due to this traditional old values, they will be wiped out eventually just like these car companies when they are completely out competed by more dynamic private Chinese EV companies and they go bankrupt and shut down. I guess they will prefer that then. Lol

Merging sometimes weakens both. Boeing went downhill after merging with McDonnell Douglas.

GAC is one of the only state behemoth who has adapted quite well and improved their brands and are doing fairly well. So if there should be any merger it should be under GAC and they should just absorb the others manufacturing capacities while maintaining their current structure. I actually thing they shouldn't merge now while the other state manufactures still have some power and bargaining chips. They should agree to merge a few years from now when the other state makers relying on foreign JV have been left so far behind and decimated so much that they can only agree to GACs terms without much issues. So yeah maybe a merger now will actually play in GACs favour as the other makers will make alot of demands in the new structure.

There is a difference between state owned brands

FAW Dongfeng Changan are centrally state owned. GAC SAIC and BAIC are provincially state owned. Chery is municipally state owned

There is a reason the merger talk has always been about FAW Dongfeng Changan. Trying to merge the provincial companies will be a whole other giant mess

Cybertruck is such an oddity, I suspected it would be a failure. It is, with an estimated monthly sales of 3,000-4,000 units currently, far below expectation.

CATL's long term goal is 30,000 battery swap stations. Hopefully, it can set worldwide battery swap standards after taking a controlling share of Nio Power, which is valued at approx. $1.5 billion.

BEVs are having a breakout year in China. I re-iterate my view that Chinese PHEV sales share will likely peak in 2-3 years time. BEVs are simply superior and will begin to cannibalise PHEV sales well before the end of this decade. We are not there yet but we will be soon enough.
