New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

supercat

Major
GAC's Aion XL Plus will have a 1000 km range (real world range 700-800 km or 500 miles), and a battery pack with an energy density of 280 Wh/Kg (depends on who you ask) that can be charged to 80% full in 8 minutes. The battery has silicon anode, excellent winter performance, and can maintain 95% of its usable capacity after 1,600 charge circles (equivalent to approximately 800,000 miles). It will be on sale in China starting this month.

In other news, CATL's battery factory, which has been built next to Tesla's Shanghai giga-factory, started to supply batteries for Tesla merely 3 months after construction began. The factory has now reached 60% of its total production capacity. The total capacity of the factory is 70 GWh or 80 GWh, again, depending on who you ask.

Tesla might be saving hundreds of $$$ per car for just having the battery factory so close to it.
Multiply it by 100000s of cars produced there and you can see how much money Tesla can save (margins...)

Huawei also had a dominant position, did China try to kill it because of "anti-monopoly" lol

As long as CATL is not doing garbage R&D relative to its size (looking at you, Alibaba..) and its globally competitive then China will actually help and protect it.

If at any moment, CATL starts doing rent-seeking then China will slap it down as it did with big tech

The biggest difference is that the tech companies are using their dominance to divvy up the chinese market and screw the chinese, while CATL is using their dominance to fight overseas companies
Which Chinese technology companies are screwing the Chinese?
