New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

I was talking about sub brands, though. Tesla didn't do that. They still made their less expensive cars under the Tesla name. What I'm talking about is when Toyota created Lexus as a sub brand for luxury cars. NIO will be doing that where their less expensive, mass market cars will not be called "NIO" but something else. They will be doing this in order to maintain the luxurious prestige of the "NIO" name. Like remember when someone saying they owned a Tesla was a big deal and you assumed they were rich? With the release of the Model 3, they kind of cheapened the "Tesla "name a bit since they don't cost that much.
I wonder which marketing model works the best? "Tesla", keeping the same name may be trying to establish lifelong customers for their cars. A young graduate in their early 20's starts with a low end "Tesla" and as the promotion comes his way he purchases a more luxurious model. Mercedes and BMW offer cheaper models of their cars, and has that lowered prospective customers' views on their quality?

Yeah I am not sure myself what the best move is from a marketing perspective. I do think Chinese companies way overdo it when it comes to creating sub brands rather than focusing on creating one strong brand identity. Geely has more sub brands than I can count.

Tesla is not known for the quality of its cars.
This is demonstrated by the number of elementary design flaws and the sheer number of defects.

But the quality will get better in the future.

Tesla's brand is positioned around being the leading edge technology innovator and being cool.

In Nz we have big camping/caravan and trailer boating enthusiasts and I have been hearing increasing comments that EV's are not very good at towing. Any comments?
