I rented the DVD of the new Total Recall movie and I have to say I like it a lot better than the Arnold Schwartzeneger version. It's a whole different scenario and plot. It has more of a spy thriller feel to it. Although the UFB (United Federation of Britain) troops sort of resemble Star Wars storm troopers, but the weapons and technology are pretty cool. And OH YES I do like the girl that played the 3 breasted prostitute...(who doesn't?).

We watched "Oz the Great and Powerful," late this afternoon. Had my wife and myself, one of my daughters, her husband and, their three boys, and my youngest son (23 years) and his girlfriend, nine of us all together, Anyone who saw, "The Wizard of Oz," as a kid and had fond memories of it, an/or showed it to their kids, should see this movie. It was very good and very faithful to the original. A great prequel...even if many decades later. Five Stars!

What do you guys think of the new ironman film? Heard that there was some Chinese involvement.

You mean the actors or the production? Also the main villian this time is a character called The Mandarin. Of course like the typical Hollywood he is played by a white guy LOL

I believe in the actual Marvel Comic series, for a long time, Iron Man's arch nemisis was, "The Mandrin." and this Iron Man III movie simply brings that guy to life in what is supposed to be an epic showdown for all of the Comic Book fan buffs.

In addition, you can bet it will also continue to build up the excitment, marketing, and hype for The Avengers II movie that is coming. These Marvel Comic movies have turned into a huge multi-billion dollar business.

You should. If you saw, "The Wizard of Oz," when young, and have fond memories of it, or have seen it since with family and friends...you will not be sorry you saw tis. it is an excellent prequel...even after 80 years or whatever it has been.

I remember it would come on once a year when I was a kid in the late 50s and through the 60s, and we would all sit down as a family and watch it almost every year.

Actually its quite the opposite. They want the Mandarin a Villain to be played by an Asian (probably Korean even if they are supposedly Chinese as they all are nowadays) but they're afraid of calls of racism and yellow peril i.e. Red Dawn. Ben Kingsley is part Indian, not Eastern Asian but Asian nonetheless. Besides the Mainland doesn't like foreign portrayals of Chinese especially in a hostile context look at Command and Conquer: Generals it got banned in the mainland and people general consider it had a positive portrayal of Chinese as saving the West in Zero Hour expansion.

China in general has bad PR. I look around and Chinese have low prevalence even in the US. Heck, Mainland Chinese, Taiwanese or HK aren't getting roles to play even Chinese characters in Hollywood only Koreans (the new Japanese to the West LOL). I mean name one Chinese actor who has John Cho, Ken Jong, Aaron Yoo, etc. Sure you have Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat, Donnie Yen, Jet Li but they're from the old guard (40-50+) and got popular abroad...not really any from this generation.

But I digress, in General, there is a relative disconnect with Asian Americans and Hollywood and still token role and recognitiion of them despite us being the fastest growing demographic (surpassing Hispanics) and growing influence abroad.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. They made the Mandarin not Chinese because of the most certain backlash of another Chinese/Asian villain if they did. Then secondly they want Iron Man 3 to play in China which Beijing would not have allowed if the Mandarin turned out to be a Chinese bad guy.

I found this humorous. I mentioned before that Hollywood is looking to insert Chinese actors into big productions. Bryan Singer who's returning to direct the next X-Men sequel posted on Twitter this of the current cast.

That unrecognizable woman at center bottom is supposedly Fan Bingbing who's been in China's latest domestic box office champ Lost in Thailand. Of course no one in the US knows who she is but being in Lost in Thailand gets her instant recognizability in China that hopefully gets people in seats. The same tactic Hollywood uses at home.
