Never saw the Wargames that was released direct to video. Could be. Apparently the studios didn't have confidence enough to release it in theaters. I've been hearing about it a while.

One movie they should make a remake is The Wild Geese. Just saw it again after a long time. It's one of those movies that you watch now you have to laugh a little but it's still a good action movie. Richard Burton looked like he needed hip-replacement surgery. They would never cast someone like that in that role today.

I wonder if Arthur Clarke's Space Odessey Series of stories is worth remaking, I vaguely remember the follow on films being a shade disapointing.

There were four books in the series as I recall, 2001, 2010, 2061 and 3001. Only the first two were made into movies. I read all the books though, and I noticed that as with all Arthur C Clarke novels he is often subtly trying to suggest that in the future bald nerdy science types will be sexy... funny that. Not like he himself was a bald nerdy science type ;) Loved the books anyway. Also I can recommend his book the Ghost of the Grand Banks about an attempt to raise the wreck(s) of the Titanic. I think 2010 still stands up today, but could do with a little tweaking story wise since the Soviet Union disappeared 19 years before the setting of the tale. Perhaps a big budget TV mini series/saga covering all four books?

Someone is going to say now there are more than four books in the series. :nono:

My mistake, only 2010 was made as a follow on, but as cinematic spectacle 2001 was in its own, could have been Kubrick's approach and the soundtrack.

Perhaps the script could be reworked to give the Chinese a bigger presence from 2010 onwards, rather than just making reference to the Chinese mission and their spaceship 'Tsien'.

I remember seeing "2001 Space Odyssey" on a real big screen back in 1968 or '69 I think... The end of the movie at that time confused everyone..It was like what was that? And I still don't get it. But 2010 kinda tied it all up.

2001 was spectacular on a real big screen. Something most of you have never experienced..

Not only was it a visual feast, it also explained the mechanics of space travel as man was about to travel to the moon. etc etc. I rank the photographic shots of the spacecraft in the darkness of space as good as the opening shots of Lawrence of Arabia, you could see the heat coming off the desert as the oncoming speck of the camel and its rider drew closer.

I also think there was a little nerdiness about it as it looked at and implemented the various processes deemed necessary for space travel.

Visually a avg sized TV would'nt do 2001 justice.

My sentiments exactly.. Todays multi-screen theaters are nice but the screens are too small in comparison to the early 70s and back before multi screen complexes became all the rage.

You younger men imagine if you will a 500-1500 seat theater with a single wide screen. It was huge and seeing a movie like 2001 or Star Wars on that screen. Awesome.. The theaters were so ornate..so beautiful.. Those days are gone...

Those were the days when one dressed up to go to the movies with ones lady love. You could even book your seats beforehand.

What's that thing to the left looks like a organ of some kind.

Back in my old home town of Akld N.Z. there still is one of those old picture theatres. It had its middle eastern theme preserved I think, and it was truely magnificent. The roof was presented in such a way to create the feeling one was looking at the night sky with the twinkling stars.

I think they even kept the original Wurlitzer in there as well.

And then there was what we called the Cinerama Screen and its especially made movies. I think the movie 'How The West Was Won' was made for it as well. It was probably the fore runner to what one would experience in a amusement part. with several cameras projecting onto the screen it gave the feeling of actually being there.

In those days my parents would give me a schilling which would have been worth about a quarter US. For that I could sit in the 1st ten rows from the screen for 6cents, or 9 cents if I wanted to be further back. A ice cream and sweets, and on the way home stop off at the fast food shop and get a scoop of fries for 6cents and for 3cents more , a piece of deep fried battered fish. Today there wouldn’t be any change from $20.00 even when I use my senior citizens discount card, which the theatre gave to me by mistake.
