Well the revelation about Bruce Lee mother's being half white is because of the information age. Long after Bruce Lee's death. Before that the only people who would've known were a minority meaning it was never an issue since he became a star doing Hong Kong movies not Hollywood ones. So the issue about his mother in fact wasn't an issue at all and stereotypical nonsense especially since ironically Bruce Lee left Hollywood because they didn't take him seriously because he was seen as Chinese. And why did he leave Hollywood? Because he was angered they gave a white guy the role of a Chinese because Hollywood believed Americans would see that more acceptable than a Chinese playing a Chinese.

By Who?

I was listening to a interview with his daughter who said that her father , because he was Eurasian, was not fully accepeted by the Chinese. I dont know whether she was referring to HK where he lived part of his life.

By ALL Chinese or just the one's he'd encounter. Remember when he was young, he gets into a lot of fights and many young men would try to challenge him and he did. Probably the one's that got beaten by him are just being sour grapes within the Kung Fu circle where Bruce was associated with.

So, what do you guys think about Korean cinema? They have some good masterpieces such as Oldboy, but one thing that strike me is that most of them are very gruesome, not in the gore way, but more of emotional shocking, it often have with serious subject such as kidnapped, revenge, serial killers, prostitutes etc...

Very very deep emotional connected, but yet, very depressing. So anyone watched some Korean movies, share some of your impressions.

I love it...especially "Lady Vengence" and "The Man from Nowhere" are my latest two favorite ones. My parents and some of my friends and their parents couldn't get enough of Korean drama show and soap operas type.

I haven't seen enough Korean cinema to make a judgement but what I've notice is every one I've seen there's an overly emotional hysterical guy in it.

Anyone see the trailer for Judge Dredd? Anyone watch the highly acclaimed Indonesian movie, The Raid? Anyone notice how very similar the plots are? One would think Judge Dredd is ripping off The Raid but apparently Judge Dredd was filmed a while ago and was delayed from release for at least a year. Interesting if there's a story behind that or it's just all coincidence.

yet, go see it, absolutely classic, don't read any review or spoilers. Just go watch it.

This movie is a great example of Korean cinema, the topic of revenge and retribution is about half of all the top rated Korean movies for some reason.

WAR IS COMING between China and the US because two Hollywood movies opened on the same day.

When I was a kid this happened all the time. I've been reading other articles where there's talk they think this is a WTO violation. Some also are already declaring the honeymoon between China and Hollywood is over. Yeah like Hollywood is going to not want there movies shown in China when it's essentially free extra money for them no matter if they only get 25% of the money made from their movies in China. I especially like the part where it's suggested Hollywood withhold movies from China as a punishment. Didn't they say the reason why China released two Hollywood movies on the same day was so they cancelled each other out giving domestic films an advantage? Maybe this is the Paul McCartney school of thought where he called a news conference to say he wasn't going to the Beijing Olympics because he didn't like how they treated animals over in China. Did he expect Chinese people would get all angry and revolt against the government because they weren't gifted with Paul McCartney honoring them with his presence? Yeah the Chinese won't revolt over human rights abuse or denial of democracy but deny the people Paul McCartney...

His maternal grandfather was a German sailor if I remember corretly. Do you have any clues that he felt much for his European ancestry connection? Whatever ancestry he had, he seems to have been Chinese by choice. That does include a strong sensitivity to perceived discrimination. I don't claim that it didn't exist, but the Chinese might be more touchy about it then others. On the other hand crying discrimination by Hollywood because of being Chinese if the Chinese discriminated him because of European ancestry is more than just ironic. To end discrimination you must not just insist on others not doing it, but abstain yourself.
Btw. someone of some German and a lot of Chinese ancestry making a career in Hollywood so recent after WWII? Just imagine a Chinese character speaking with a strong rolling "R", what should the poor US audience make of that? On the other hand, he could have joined Star Trek.
