great! another Hollywood megablockbuster where the bad guy is a Chinese character LOL

Yeah it would be rather stupid to include a villain of the nationality you are trying to break into... Although even if it was the case the audience would still lap it up (given their taste for excessive special effects, transformers k).

But then again having a chinese contribution to the film doesn't necessarily mean it needs chinese actors, or even chinese filming locations. I wonder how the "story will resonate strongly with chinese audiences"... let's be honest, the iron man franchise is quite pro american and pro US military. Unless tony stark finds himself allying with the PLA or a chinese military entrepenuer to fight off aliens or something I can't see how they can validly include a positive chinese element to the iron man mythos.
And tony stark getting an asian girlfriend doesn't count lol... =__="

Theres always "Charlies Angels"One of those characters has a chinese playing the part of a good guy.. i mean girl

I don't think anyone these days feels like reviving that franchise, it wasn't exactly a hit in the west, no reason to think it would do better in china. And the character I think was just asian incidentally, not in the implied "resonate with chinese audience" way this film is meant to be.

But whatever, as long as the domestic industry learns something about filmmaking it doesn't really matter who's the bad guy or good guy or even if the story makes sense.

When the rumor emerged it was the Mandarin, Disney immediately denied it. I don't know the Iron Man lore but what I've read is the Mandarin is an anti-communist Chinese. Maybe they should call him, the Taiwanese. People are saying what's being described by rumor of what the villain specializes in is very similiar to the Mandarin dealing with technology. If true they might be reimagining the Mandarin and not making him Chinese and if Ben Kingsley is the sole villain. I don't know if the Chinese government just looks at this in black and white. I wouldn't have a problem with it if it isn't the cliche that it's the Westerner to the rescue all by his own that saves the Chinese. They would have to make it that the Chinese have their own suit.

Interesting I never read during the pre-production period that China was a location shoot for this Bond movie. Looks last minute. With the titanic grosses in China with the Titanic movie, whoever made this decision is probably a happy camper. Over the next several years, you're probably going to see a lot of movies shoot on location in China because of the buzz over Titanic in China.

Drama, chick flicks etc sure where the main focus is more on the actual human acting BUT anything that is machine/CGI intensive no one can match Hollywood's expertise. They have been doing movies for over 100 years and are pioneers in movie making magic especially action movies. Even Japanese action movies are lame compare to Hollywood's an they are decades ahead of Chinese movie industry. HK film industry which is very well established BUT they are primarily focus on human action sequences/car chases/kung fu etc but far from CGI or machination experts.

branching out from the J-10 thread, cause it's clearly OT

HK movies efforts on CGIs tends to invoke more giggles than awesome for me, except stuffs from Stephen Chow, Zhangyimou, and recent high budget collosals

can't blame them because the bulk of HK movies' budget are tiny compared to Hollywood's
but it was a real pain to watch, like a movie (forgot and i think i never remembered the title) starring Andy Lau as a cyborg or something

if you know you're not up to notch in CGI and budget limited, why try something like that? maybe because it still sells for some

WTF (FOX TV SHOW) Touch two straight episodes that insinuate that Asian men are not good fathers or worthy of being fathers. The Asian guy that's a thief and his daughter is being raised by his Ex and a white guy. And yesterday's episode with the Asian lesbian couple picking a white sperm donor. THIS IS TOTAL BS!!!!
