Well I saw on TV Jerry Bruckheimer being interviewed and he said they want to do it but they want to get things right. If it's actually in production, then they're going to use CGI which is probably going to be bad. Are F-35s ready? And who's going to be the aggressor? The Russian T-50 or the Chinese J-20? I doubt any of them are going to let an American movie film their fighters and they end up being beat. They would have to be CGI. What's probably going to have to happen is they use F-22s as the aggressor. Really who wants to watch CGI fighters in combat? People want to see the real deal flying. I don't think they can get away with CGI with this.

What I doubt about this coming out 2012. Tony Scott and Tom Cruise have their plates full of other projects at the moment. Especially for a director, Tony Scott, who I just read is directing the remake of The Wild Bunch. That's a 2-3 year commitment for a director. So it seems they haven't even started production.

It all depends on the budget and skill of the company doing the CGI work! With enough $$$ and done right CGI can be extremely realistic and do things that cannot be replicated by 'live' things. Hopefully they will have a combination of both where CGI complements actual props etc. The hardest things for CGI to replicate is human faces, blood, fire and water.

As long as Michael Bay is not involve I'm good because he has a tendency to overdo on his CGI.
As far as 'enemies' I don't think the average audience cares. Keep in mind that 99% of the people in this world wouldn't know the difference between a Mig 29/35, SU-33, J-20, J-10, Typhoon or any modern birds flying today. Remember in the original TG, F-5Es were use to depict non-existent Mig 28s from some made up country.
The name itself has lost some meaning as well because 'Top Gun' doesn't exist like it did when the movie was made. It's now call SFTI or sifti and it's part of Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) or n-sock and located in NAS Fallon and not at sunny and sexy Miramar anymore. I guess Tom Cruise can still ride down the road to NAS Fallon in his bike but it's not the same as riding in San Diego.. oh and has anyone seen Val Kimer lately? geez Iceman sure has put down a LOT of french fries and fast food in the past 20 years :) he'll be flexing his flabs instead of muscle in any beach volleyball scenes.

People want to see the real thing. Well of course there will be some CGI for explosions and things they can't do in real life. They used models and special effects in the original to fill those parts. But people want to see real fighters flying. I just watched on TV about the story of late that the F-35 rising development costs might kill the program. They might have to use F-18s now.

You mean "Alien" prequel. It's still unclear how much of the Alien plays in this movie. I was at Comic Con where they had Ridley Scott live from Iceland shooting the movie and he was vague about much of "Alien" was going to be in it. Sounds like the same universe though. I read an unconfirmed plot that it was about humans that venture out into space and discover an alien (not that alien) civilization where it turns out they planted the seeds of life on Earth. Something happens where the humans' lives are in danger and they turn the alien's "weapon" against them. The movie is called Prometheus so deduct what you want from the myth.

Here's a pic I took with Charlize Theron, the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Ridley Scott. The only downside I see is the guy on stage with Charlize Theron is Damon Lindeloff the writer for this movie. He was the showrunner for the TV show, Lost. A lot of movies this year where it had Lost people involved didn't do as well as people thought. Why? Because their storytelling skills suck.

This would be a huge casting coup if all the stars said to be involved were true. Some I can't believe because of their historical huge egos like Van Damme. Now if they just asked Steven Seagal and had a camera ready and they can film the fight that would erupt between him and Van Damme on who was going to play the good guy.

Donnie Yen eyed for "Expendables 2"

26 Aug – Hong Kong actor and martial arts expert Donnie Yen has reportedly been offered a role in the multi action star movie "Expendables 2", according to a report on Movie Web website.

Donnie Yen has been offered a role in the sequel, as the move will reportedly make things smoother for the production team to strike a deal with a Chinese distributor so that the movie can be released in China.

Twitch website also added that the film's producer Avi Lerner, invited Yen (who was on vacation with his family in the US) to dinner, in order to offer him a "tailor-made role" in the action-packed sequel.

Yen is said to be considering several film roles at the moment, and a decision is expected to be made in the weeks to come.

The martial arts star is no stranger to Hollywood with roles in Blade II (he was part of the blood pack) and Shanghai Knights.

Martial arts movie fans will certainly know Yen for his role in the Jet Li film's like Once Upon a Time In China 2 and Hero, or his breakout role in Ip Man and Ip Man 2.

If Yen accepts the part in "Expendables 2", the star will be joining John Travolta, Chuck Norris, and Jean-Claude Van Damme in addition to its returning cast Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Terry Crews.
