Well normally how it works is outside the country of origin, there would be someone who buys the rights paying a certain amount of money for them where they would make all the money or carry all the risks and not the country of origin. So its sounds like a Taiwanese company bought the foreign distribution rights for whatever territory those rights cover that they paid for and it would be up to them to protect those rights and not China. China already got paid by this Taiwanese company so it doesn't matter to Chinese company behind the movie because they're not getting any more money unless that was part of the deal. Hollywood on the other hand knows their movies are popular world wide hence why they want a piece of the pie in those markets.
I don't know if there is a thread for TV series. So I just post here of some recent hot Chinese TV series.

This is also a pretty good show that I have been waiting for intently for about a year now. I thought this show was going to be coming out this December but I just found out today that it was released on the 27th of April. Plus, the show is only 27 episodes and not the usual marathon of 40 episodes which can he taxing at times.
