Re: RED DAWN (2010) - Changed Enemy

better ban everyone involved in making this film, the company, the actors/actresses...for life
i mean, we already knew, that anti-chinese sentiments only fuels patriotism in china, further justifies what the patriotic chinese views are, insults the asians in US, and most importantly, strengthens anti-americanism, reinforces american-haters of how "bigot" US is, and prove further that hollywood movies are shit these days

it's a terrible idea, and they knew it, and they decided to continue putting money in it. shows you how modern hollywood insults the art of film-making

red dawn, for all its ignorance it is, can still be viewed as a piece of literature during the cold war days when the soviet scares were at its height, and seemed like the "right thing" to think

but this remake is absolutely wrong. it's 2010 for god sake. it's a new era. should represent globalization instead of close-mindedness. worse yet, it's obvious the people who's behind this, decided to continue with something that they know, is a suicide game.
isn't battlefield earth bad enough? but at least it didn't try to offend 1/5th of the population on earth

i swear i wont even buy this piece of shit

That's not quite true. Movies that portray China as the "Bad Guys" will inevitably influence some people to view China as "Bad Guys" in real life. This in turn translates into votes for anti-China policies.

More directly, the reason that the producers chose China as bad guys indicate that they think there is a market out there for anti-China entertainment. That is a reflection of the views of the US public.

And the bottom line is the movie producers are just bent on making money. That's what they do.

So was Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, Bernie Madoff, Jimmy Swaggart, etc. etc. They were all just bent on making money..... that's what they do, so it must be okay then.

I haven't looked into this movie much at all, but it sounds like they're treating the movie as a joke right from the start. Back in the 1980s, like the original Red Dawn, cheesy movies took themselves seriously, and decades later people would watch them again and ironically enjoy them in a "so bad it's good" way. Now, there's this new fad where people make intentionally cheesy movies (Snakes on a Plane), complete with self aware jokes. It's quite stupid really.

If you watch the original today it has so many parallels to Iraq with the US looking like the bad guys. I wouldn't doubt if they made that exact movie today instead of the 1980s, it would've caused quite a stir where the outrage would reverse positions.

Creative license allows for the film maker to go over the top, whether its acceptable to the movie going public is revealed in the box office receipts. For business to indulge in creative accounting is usually frowned upon.

Exactly. I've seen Red Dawn, and it's so over-dramatic and silly that it's just funny. The whole premise is dumb.

It's the same thing for the remake. It's escapist action, and making China the villain is a gimmick designed to set this movie apart from the million other action movies made every year.

And yes, making China the villain does reflect popular anxieties about the rise of China. But at the same time China is the villain in the movie because that's the only country that's even close to plausible (very strong at and least moderately hostile to the US). So look on the bright side-by making China the villain Hollywood is acknowledging it's strength.

Lastly, I'd like to point out that there's way more movies made every year where the villain is someone in the US government or a large US corporation.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I predict it'd bomb in the box office with bad reviews.

Lol when I first heard of this movie, that China would invade the US... I wondered how the directors/screenwriters would manage it. I doubt any of China's military aircraft could reach the US (no tankers), and the idea of the navy landing on US shores is ridiculous rofl. (Maybe china gets their hands on alien technology, or they have twenty supercarriers under secret construction in underground shipyards?? teehee)

The absurdity of the concept would be hilarious if it weren't so frustrating (China invading the US?.. Seriously?? Even the idea of the Soviet Union invading the US perplexes me)

The difference is the movie moguls are not robbing people blind. You should basically know what you are getting before you go see a film.

You've got Jimmy Swaggart mixed up with Jim Bakker...Bakker was scamming people and Swaggart was hanging around with hookers.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I predict it'd bomb in the box office with bad reviews.

I'm not sure about the film bombing but..It's just a movie.
