Why not? Something like the strela from Russia weights 4.7 tons. View attachment 111760
May not be as agile as a mountain car in mountainous terrain, but much faster and likely more comfortable for long patrols.
do you know what the width, length & height requirements are for Z-8s and Mi-17s? This is the first time, I've heard of Strela as a vehicle. I remember it as a SAM and don't see anything suggesting otherwise.

Given that Russians and the Chinese share the same family of helicopters, it would make sense that whatever they use will also work for the Chinese side, of course I don't think this specific vehicle will be suitable for high altitude.

China needs mountain cat to fit inside the transport helicopter, big difference. That why Z-8G was redesigned to create Z-8L.

Why do you need it to fit inside?
Any specific advantage
officers just wanted a vehicle that could keep up with the infantry as much as possible
wouldn't it be better if one helicopter could carry two?
just count it as mule would be helpful

Why not bike or quad? Wouldn't it be more mobile

Someday maybe helicopters could be modular like this and you could chose to lift a cabin or use a vehicle as a cabin.
Do you mean something like
